Draft the greatest footballers in history into one starting XI. Then find out whether they can actually win anything.
Eleven rounds. Each one draws a random country and a random decade, and you take one player from whoever played there. A goalkeeper from 1970s Italy. A winger from 2010s Spain. You will not get the eleven you wanted — that is the game.
Then you build the XI, choose a shape, and play a full season: 38 league matches, the domestic cup, and a European competition.
THE TREBLE
Win all three and you have done what almost nobody does. Go unbeaten in the league as well — 38-0-0 — and you have the Perfect Treble. It happens about twice in a thousand runs.
CHEMISTRY, NOT FAME
Team rating is not the average of eleven numbers. Width, defensive cover, a real spine, who creates and who finishes, how many players are out of position — all of it multiplies. Drafting the eleven most famous names reliably produces a worse team than drafting eleven that fit together.
FAIR ACROSS SIXTY YEARS
Every player is rated against their own contemporaries rather than on raw totals, so a forward who dominated a low-scoring 1960s league stands next to a modern one who scored more in an easier era. Missing history is treated as unknown, never as poor.
SIX LEAGUES
England, Spain, Italy, Germany, France and the Netherlands, from the 1960s to now — 465 players. You choose your league before you see a single one of them. The English league is the hardest to go unbeaten in and the best seeded in Europe. The Dutch league is the easiest to win and the hardest treble.
