Open the menu bar, pick Aurora Glass, Ink Wash, Cool Dusk or Classic, and watch a live preview of the fold. Then close your MacBook lid and see it for real.
Lid Up adds a fold animation to your MacBook. Close the lid and your desktop stays anchored in space while the glass tilts through it: the picture leans back, frosts over and slips into black just before the hinge shuts. Lift the lid again before the Mac sleeps and it unfolds the same way. Pick from four fold styles: Classic, Aurora Glass, Ink Wash and Cool Dusk.
HOW IT WORKS
Every recent MacBook has a hinge angle sensor. Lid Up reads it ten times a second, and the moment the lid starts to move it draws a live copy of your screen as if it were a sheet floating exactly where the display used to be, seen from where you sit. Everything is rendered on the GPU with Metal: perspective, a blur pyramid and a darkening curve, smoothed by a spring so the motion follows your hand at the display's refresh rate.
FOLD STYLES
pick the mood of the fold. Classic is the original neutral look; Aurora Glass, Ink Wash and Cool Dusk each wash the picture in a different duotone as it folds, deepening as the lid closes. Switch anytime from the menu bar, with a live preview.
ASK SIRI
"Preview the fold," "turn on the lid fold," "set the fold style to ink wash," or "what's my lid angle," all work without opening the app. Add any of them as a Shortcut, or trigger them by voice.

ONE PERMISSION
Screen Recording is the only permission. It lets the app draw a live copy of the built-in display while the lid is moving. Frames stay in graphics memory for the length of the fold and are never saved or sent anywhere. No accounts, no network, no analytics, no ads. Fully offline.
REQUIREMENTS
A MacBook with the continuous lid angle sensor: MacBook Air (M2 or later) or 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro (M1 Pro or later). macOS 15 or later. Only the built-in display is animated; in clamshell mode the app idles. After a full close, macOS shows the lock screen, so the opening animation plays when the Mac has not gone to sleep.
