By the time you press record, the moment is gone. MotionClutch keeps the last 30 seconds cached — trigger it and that past is part of the recording too.
MotionClutch records the moment BEFORE you press record.
Action cameras have one fundamental problem: by the time you hit the button, the moment is gone. MotionClutch inverts this. While the camera is on, it continuously keeps the last 15, 30 or 60 seconds in a rolling cache. The instant you trigger it, that past is preserved and merged with the live recording into a single video.
WHEN YOUR HANDS ARE BUSY
Phone on a chest mount, screen facing your body, hands on the bars. MotionClutch was written for exactly this:
• Start and stop recording with the volume buttons — without looking at the screen
• Screen gestures: double-tap for preview, triple-tap for recording
• Haptic feedback — each event has its own pattern, so you feel what happened instead of reading it
• Blackout mode: screen fully black, brightness at minimum, camera still running
IT SHOWS YOUR DEVICE'S REALITY
There is no hardcoded resolution list. MotionClutch scans the formats your iPhone actually supports and shows what each one costs: field-of-view crop, sensor binning, disk usage, thermal risk. It recommends; it does not decide. The final call is yours.
NO RE-ENCODING
The cache and the live recording are merged without re-encoding (passthrough). A 30-minute recording merges in seconds — no battery drain, no heat, no quality loss.
IT PROTECTS ITSELF
• Staged thermal backoff when the device heats up — you are told exactly what changed, and you choose what happens at each stage
• Warns before the disk fills, ends the recording safely when it does
• Detects capture interruptions (lock, another app) and says so; it never silently pretends to be recording
• If the app dies mid-recording, the partial recording is found on next launch and you decide what happens to it
IT STAYS ON YOUR DEVICE
No account, no cloud, no sync, no analytics. Videos go straight to Photos. No data is collected.

Fixes
• Cache duration: with 60 seconds selected, recordings were only including the last 30 seconds. The full duration you choose is now preserved.
• Thermal protection: restarting the camera while the device was already warm left the protection inactive. It now applies from the start.
New
• Unfinished recordings now appear as a notice on the main screen, without having to fully quit and reopen the app.
• You can reach recovery any time from Settings › Unfinished recordings.
• Deleting a recording now asks for confirmation and states exactly how much footage is being removed.
Interface
• Buttons on the main screen are now labeled, and the Settings entry is easier to find.
• Improved the layout of the introduction tour.
