A new Match book under Letters and numbers: a picture on the left, three words on the right, and your child drags or taps the one that names it. Tapping a word reads it aloud, so a child who is not reading yet can play by ear. Twenty more words to spell and match, eighty in all. More to try for free: in Scratch and Glow the blank canvas and the first dinosaur, half the alphabet, the numbers 1 to 3, and five words in each word book. Still no ads, no tracking, and no internet permission at all.

Bigger letter tiles in the words book on tablets and foldables, so there is more to aim at on a big screen. New in 1.1: a book of thirty short words to spell by dragging letter tiles into place, or tapping them, with a picture of each and the word spoken when it is done; tracing shows one numbered dot at a time, with an arrow for the direction; and the 2+ / 4+ switch is bigger. Still no ads, no tracking, and no internet permission at all.

A new book of words under Letters: thirty short words to spell by dragging letter tiles into place, or tapping them. A picture shows what each one is, and the word is spoken when it is done. Tracing now shows one numbered dot at a time, with an arrow for the direction, so there is never a 1, 2, 3 to choose between. The 2+ / 4+ switch is bigger and easier to find. Still no ads, no tracking, and no internet permission at all.

The first time you open a picture, a short note now explains the four buttons beside the page — and which two answer only to a press held for a second and a half. That they ignore a quick tap is deliberate: it is what stops a three-year-old wiping a finished drawing with a resting hand. It was just not obvious enough from looking at them.
