Simulation. Reimagined.
Waveglass is a native Mac tool for exploring optical waveguides through parametric models, field visualization, and numerical checks. It is designed for learning, teaching, and preliminary design analysis.
Planar waveguide modes
Solve planar TE and TM modes. Inspect effective indices, mode fields, confinement factors, effective widths, and algebraic residuals.
Scalar cross-section modes
Explore rectangular channel, rib, and dual-channel cross sections with a scalar eigenmode solver. View intensity and signed fields, effective areas, and basis-order comparisons.
TE beam propagation
Use a scalar paraxial finite-difference beam propagation method to study straight guides, linear tapers, dual-guide couplers, and cosine S bends. Inspect linear or logarithmic intensity maps, window and core power, and output reference-mode projections.
Sweeps and numerical checks
Run wavelength sweeps and estimate waveguide group index under a fixed material-index assumption. Compare multiple grids and expanded computational windows to assess numerical sensitivity.
Save and export
Save and reopen JSON design parameters. Export CSV data, Markdown simulation reports, and PNG intensity images for supported studies. Computation runs locally, with no account required.
Model scope
Cross-section modes are scalar. Propagation uses a TE scalar paraxial approximation and edge damping. Wavelength sweeps do not include material dispersion. This release does not provide full-vector 3D solving, FDTD, PML, reflection analysis, or complete port S-parameters. Interpret results within these assumptions and check convergence.
Requires macOS 14.0 or later.
Available interface languages: Simplified Chinese and English.
Ratings & Reviews
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
1. Position and resize a receiver aperture to inspect collected power, propagation curves, and band-average output.
2. Compare receiver alignment using a 3×3 transverse-offset study.
3. Size the receiver aperture for a target fraction of launched power.
4. Inspect the propagation power budget: core, outside-core, and net power decrease.
5. Evaluate sampled-band transmission with mean, minimum, maximum, and threshold results.
6. Resolve launch-mismatch scans for position, tilt, or beam waist.
7. Compare core-radius and refractive-index-contrast scans.
8. Calculate Gaussian receiver-mode projection using complex-field overlap.
9. Inspect wrapped output phase with low-intensity masking and complex-field CSV export.
10. Compare input/output complex fields separately from power transmission.
Also includes Fiber Studio, circular/elliptical/graded/ring cores, expanded sources and bands, propagation overviews, principal beam diameters, encircled-power radii, and numerical comparisons. BPM and Maxwell flow views gain optional moving markers following computed flux and respecting Reduce Motion; display speed is not physical travel time.
Retains the desktop workspace and navigation, with expanded collapsible analysis and bilingual guidance. The launch screen waits for Enter Workspace instead of an automatic countdown.
