A tea session can count as mindful time. Switch on "Log sessions as Mindful Minutes" in Settings, and each finished session goes into Apple Health, from the first pour to the last. Gaiwan only writes to Health and never reads from it. Also: the buttons on the Live Activity show that your tap is being handled, which helps most on a Mac.

Tea at a tea house counts too. Log a session with a tea you don't own: pick it from the catalogue or type its name, describe the pot you were served in, and name the place yourself. If you liked it, add it to your cabinet from the finished session, and the session goes with it. Also: long tea names fit better on Apple Watch, and the finish screen is a little tidier.

Gaiwan now runs on Apple Watch. Start a steep, pause it, add ten seconds, then rate and log it from your wrist, with a tap when the cup is ready. Each tea's card opens on its photo, with Brew right underneath and a summary of how you brew it: your usual leaf, water and temperature, and the sitting you rated best. With a subscription, the card also gets a short written summary drawn from your own sessions, notes and photos, with tips for next time. Your teaware now sits on the shelf the way your teas do, by its own photos. Also: the timer's buttons keep one colour, long details read left to right, and the subscription screen is tidier.

Say "Start a tea ceremony in Gaiwan" and Siri opens a new session. Name a tea from your cabinet — "Brew Rou Gui in Gaiwan" — and it goes straight to the timer, with your usual vessel and the guide's water and leaf. Hands wet over the tray? "Next steep in Gaiwan" starts the timer without touching the phone. Both are in the Shortcuts app too. Your cabinet now shows each tea by its photograph, fading into the card behind the name. Fixes: finishing a session from the button at the top now closes it properly, and the Lock Screen no longer shows the previous tea's name over a new session.

Brewing, without the back-and-forth. Tasting notes open over the lower half of the screen with the timer still in reach, so you can pour and write at once. When a steep is ready, rate it right on the dial: one tap and it's logged. The timer tells you which steep you're on out of how many the tea usually gives, and when to rinse first. Finishing a session asks how it was. Run the whole session from the Lock Screen. A Live Activity shows the countdown and lets you pause, add ten seconds, rate a steep that's ready and start the next one, without unlocking. A notification lets you know when a steep is done, even with the phone in your pocket. The timer has a voice: a soft knock when a steep starts, a bowl and a gentle buzz when it's ready. Sound follows your silent switch, and both can be turned off in Settings. The origins map now says what its colours mean, and helps you place teas it couldn't find. Gaiwan now speaks Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Japanese — the whole app, and all 243 entries in Learn.
