Moonspan: Moon Phase & Lunar

Eclipse, Night Sky & Journal

Free · In‑App Purchases

A real 3D Moon under a living sky, and now the Moon's orbit around Earth. Count down to every eclipse, keep a private Moon Log, and add widgets. No ads. Moonspan is a moon phase app and lunar calendar that shows you the real Moon — tonight, and any night. See a real 3D Moon, lit by the actual Sun and shaped by real libration, or switch on Cute mode for an illustrated Moon that naps at new moon, watches for shooting stars, and likes a poke or a pet. Turn on Living Sky and Today's backdrop follows the Sun's real altitude as you scrub through the hours, over a real Alpine ridgeline. Tonight's Brief is a short, plain-English summary of tonight's Moon, written by Apple Intelligence from Moonspan's own calculations. Drag the date slider to travel through moon phases, past or future. Sky Path plots the Moon's altitude across the night sky from moonrise to moonset. Browse a full lunar calendar with every full moon and new moon, or a full year at a glance. ECLIPSES Count down to the next solar and lunar eclipse, and see whether each one is visible from where you are. MOON LOG Keep a private, on-device journal of your nights under the Moon. Every entry is auto-stamped with the phase, illumination, and sky at the moment you write it, and you can add up to four photos. "Help me start" offers a first-person opening line from Apple Intelligence, written entirely on this device. Note how the night felt and save it to Apple Health as a State of Mind entry, see last night's sleep from Health, or bring in a photo or place with Apple's Journaling Suggestions. Both are off until you turn them on, and Moon Log works without them. EARTH & MOON See the Moon's orbit from above. Read how far the Moon is tonight and whether it's moving closer, pull the Moon along its path, and watch Earth's tilt, the seasons, and where eclipses fall. FIND THE MOON Hold up this device and Moonspan points you toward the Moon, with haptics that quicken as you get close. It uses the compass and Moonspan's own calculations, so it's an estimate, not a navigation instrument. LANDMARKS Tap Tycho, Copernicus, or a real Apollo landing site on the 3D Moon to see where it sits and whether it's in sunlight right now. ON IPAD On a larger screen, Today puts the Moon beside Tonight's Brief and your tools, and the calendar shows the day you pick together with the whole month. ON YOUR HOME SCREEN AND LOCK SCREEN Moon phase widgets cover your Home Screen, Lock Screen, and Control Center. On iPhone, a Moon Tonight Live Activity keeps a sky arc and a countdown to moonrise or moonset on your Lock Screen. Ask Siri, or use Shortcuts, to check tonight's Moon. - Interactive 3D Moon and date slider, or an illustrated Cute mode - Moon phases, illumination, moonrise and moonset for your city - Living Sky backdrop and Sky Path altitude view - Earth & Moon orbit view with distance, tides, and seasons - Find the Moon: a compass-guided pointer - Tonight's Brief, written by Apple Intelligence - Full lunar calendar, year at a glance, and saved places - Eclipse countdown and local visibility (Pro) - Moon Log: nightly notes, photos, mood, and sleep context (Pro) - Landmarks inspector for real craters, seas, and Apollo sites (Pro) - Two-pane layouts on iPad - Widgets, Lock Screen, Live Activity (iPhone), Siri & Shortcuts MOONSPAN PRO unlocks Moon Log, the Landmarks inspector, eclipses and local visibility, a photography planner for golden and blue hour, granular per-city alerts, bigger widgets and the iPhone Live Activity, year at a glance, and unlimited saved cities. Astronomy in Moonspan — phase, illumination, sky position, rise and set — is calculated entirely on this device from published astronomical series; sky position and rise/set are estimates for a level, unobstructed horizon, not observatory-grade predictions. Health data and Journaling Suggestions stay on this device, inside your Moon Log. Moonspan uses product analytics to understand how the app is used overall; it's never used to advertise to you, and there are no ads in the app. Terms of Use: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

Earth & Moon: a new view of the Moon's orbit, from above. See how far the Moon is tonight and whether it's moving closer, turn the scene with a finger, pull the Moon along its path, and watch Earth's tilt, the seasons, and where eclipses fall. It opens from a new card on Today. Find the Moon: hold up this device and Moonspan points you toward the Moon, with haptics that quicken as you get close. It uses the compass and Moonspan's own calculations, so it's an estimate that gets you looking the right way. Cute mode now plays back. Tap to poke, hold to pet, and go easy on the poking. Six secrets are hidden for you to find. Also performance and smaller fixes. Everything is still calculated on your device.
