PortFinder: Switch Port Mapper
Trace Network Jacks via SNMP
$14.99
Plug your Mac or iPad into a wall jack: PortFinder tells you which switch and which port it lands on. No labels, no patch-panel spreadsheet.
A wall jack, a cable that disappears into the wall… and no idea which port it comes out on. PortFinder polls your switches and answers within seconds: “Floor 2, port 14”.
WHERE AM I PLUGGED IN?
Plug your Mac (or your iPad with an Ethernet adapter) into the jack and tap the button: PortFinder finds your address in the tables of every switch and shows the switch and port in large type.
SEARCH
An IP address, a MAC address or simply “Floor 2 port 14”: PortFinder cross-references ARP and forwarding tables, rules out inter-switch links and points to the probable location.
LINK MONITORING
You are in the wiring closet while a colleague plugs a cable in at the other end of the building? The port that just went “Up” appears immediately, along with the detected device.
PORT DETAILS
Link state, speed, duplex, VLAN, STP, LLDP neighbor, PoE power and the list of connected devices with their addresses.
MULTI-VENDOR
PortFinder reads the standard MIBs over SNMP v2c or v3 (IF-MIB, Q-BRIDGE-MIB, IP-MIB, POWER-ETHERNET-MIB, LLDP-MIB): Cisco, Aruba / HPE, Juniper, Extreme, Brocade / Ruckus, Dell, Netgear, Ubiquiti, MikroTik… A read-only community or an SNMPv3 user (SHA authentication, AES privacy) is all it needs, no “enable” password.
MAC AND IPAD, IN SYNC
Buy once, use on Mac and iPad. Your switches, their SNMP communities and v3 passwords follow you on both devices through end-to-end encrypted sync: everything is encrypted on the device with a passphrase only you know. The server cannot read any of it. Sync is optional: without an account, PortFinder works entirely offline.
DEMO MODE
No switch at hand? Three simulated switches answer inside the app, so you can try every feature before connecting the real ones.
Built by a network technician for network technicians: nothing to install on the switches, nothing to write, read-only.
Ratings & Reviews
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
• SNMPv3: poll your switches with a v3 user, with authentication (MD5, SHA-1, SHA-2) and AES-128 privacy. Ideal when your security policy rules out v2c communities.
• v3 passwords stay in the keychain and sync end-to-end encrypted between Mac and iPad, like communities.
• Precise error messages: unknown user, wrong authentication or privacy password.
