Layout tab: the playfield photo now always fits the screen. On an iPad or a phone on its side, the photo sits beside the list of shots; held upright, tap a numbered pin to read what that shot does right on the photo. iPad: from a machine page, the sidebar's Games, Events, Library and Settings open their page again.

Map: once you've moved the map above the Events list (dragged it, zoomed in or centred it on you), the expand button opens the full map on that same place, instead of going back to every event. Photos: Farfalla and Robot (Zaccaria) now show a real playfield photo with the shots numbered on it, and their backglass.

Map: where one venue hosts several events, tap its number to list them all, then open any of them. Before, the number only zoomed in and those events couldn't be reached from the map. Filters: when a filter is on, Reset now comes first in the filter row, so a filter chosen earlier is never hidden at the far end.

Events map. The Events list now opens on a map of its events. Pan and pinch it right there, tap an event on the map for its card, then tap the card to open the event. Switch between All and Upcoming, tap the arrow to centre the map on where you are, or move the map and tap Show events here to narrow the list to that area (tap In this area to clear it). Expand it to the full map to see where you are while it is open, and to find a city or state, even offline. The map images themselves need a connection. Event pages now set out the details: when it runs, where (tap the venue to open it in Maps) and where the bank comes from. The map's event card is easier to read too. New on iPhone Duo, half-folded: Events shows the map upright and the list flat. Games splits too: the era cards, or a preview of the machine you tap (its backglass and first Playbook steps), stand up while the list lies flat; tap the machine again to open its guide. In Settings, the upright half previews the setting you last touched. And a metal hinge now fills the crease. Fixes on iPhone Duo: half-folded, Events and Library keep their title bar, with one search field on the flat half. Privacy: the weekly event-list download is now counted anonymously, to see how many people use the app. Nothing that identifies you is kept (see the privacy policy).

Keep your scores. On a machine's page, tap Add score and photograph the score display: the app reads the score on your phone (or type it in) and saves it with the date, the model and where you played. Each machine's page shows your best and number of games; one tap opens your history and progress chart, and Library › My scores lists every machine you have played. Scores and photos sync between your devices through your own private iCloud; we never see them. Pinball Companion now speaks French and Spanish: the whole app and all 526 guides. It follows your device's language, or choose one in Settings › Language. Pinball jargon (multiball, jackpot, skill shot…) stays in English, as on the machine. Pro or Premium/LE? Stern machines from 2012 on that play differently by model now have a switch on the machine page: pick Pro or Premium/LE and the rules, playbook, multiball and mode lists show only that model's version. 38 machines are covered, each fact-checked against Stern's release notes and rule sheets, and the app remembers your choice for each machine. Chapters: jump through a guide from the new Chapters button, or from the sidebar on iPad. Starred events now also appear in Library. Event line-ups now update every week. Pull down on the Events list, or tap Update now in Settings, to check right away. Filters you can't miss: when a filter is on, a line at the top of Games, Events and an event's machine list says what it shows and how many search results it hides. Tap Show all to clear it. 30 more regular competitions in the US, 487 events in all. In Library, starred events now sit at the top, above your starred machines. New on iPhone Duo: stand it half-folded and the machine page, the event page and Library split in two. What you read stands up (guide text, an event's machines, starred events); what you tap lies flat (Back, star, section picker, chapters, Add score, search, filters and the tabs). On Layout, the playfield photo is turned on its side on the upright half, with the shot list flat. Unfold the phone or turn it sideways for the normal layout. Fixes: on an event page, "No machines found" no longer covers the event's details; your scores at an event now fold under one row; a new score is no longer suggested at a place far from where you are.

526 machines now have a guide, up from 269: every machine on the US event banks, the Canadian, European and New Zealand banks, and Turner Pinball's Merlin's Arcade, Ninja Eclipse and Yukon Yeti. Every guide is fact-checked against its sources. 61 more competitions in the Events tab: regular tournaments in Canada, France, Germany, the UK, New Zealand, Spain and Ireland, 457 events in all. Playfield photos with numbered shot pins on 57 machines, and backglass photos on 122. Multiball tips now say how to add a ball: 189 multiballs on 107 machines show the shot that puts another ball into play.

New Events tab: tournament banks for Texas Pinball Festival, BPAC, 42 Australian club competitions and 352 regular US competitions in 44 states and DC, each machine one tap from its guide. Star the events you follow, filter by country and state, and sort by date, nearby or number of games. 269 machines now have a guide, including every machine on the Australian event banks and the most-played machines on the US banks. Strategy now lists each game's skill shots and how to start its multiballs and modes, in collapsible sections under the Tournament Playbook. Playfield photos with numbered shot pins on 91 machines, and backglass photos on 112. The scanner can now also recognise a machine from its backglass artwork. Browse now lives inside Games.
