Keep your Sunshine host awake and see its screen from the menu bar. Open a full
window to take control, with HDR, AV1, surround sound, and game controllers.
Penumbra puts your Sunshine host in your Mac's menu bar.
A small live preview shows the host's screen one click away, and a gentle
keep-alive stops it from idling to its screensaver or lock screen. When you need
to do more, open a full window and take control with your keyboard, mouse, or game
controller.
LIVE PREVIEW
• An always-on 640×360 preview of your host, right from the menu bar
• Light on your network at about 1 Mbps, so it can stay connected all day
• Connects at launch and opens at login, if you like
KEEP-ALIVE
• A periodic input nudge, on an interval you choose, keeps the host awake
• Pauses on its own while Steam is selected, so Big Picture isn't interrupted
• Can keep your Mac awake while connected, too
FULL CONTROL
• A resizable window, or full screen with ⌃⌘F
• Keyboard and mouse, with a captured-mouse mode for games (⌃⌘M)
• Game controllers with rumble, up to sixteen at once
• Remap ⌘ to Ctrl so Mac shortcuts drive the host's copy and paste
• Send your Mac's clipboard to the host as typed text (⌃⌘V)
QUALITY
• Up to 4K, and up to 120 fps on displays that support it
• HEVC, H.264, and AV1, decoded in hardware
• HDR, and full 4:4:4 color for sharper text
• Stereo, 5.1, or 7.1 surround sound
• Lost video and audio packets are rebuilt from error-correction data, so Wi-Fi
hiccups don't show
SIMPLE SETUP
• Finds Sunshine hosts on your network automatically
• Pairs with a single PIN entered in Sunshine's web interface
• Save several hosts, give them nicknames, and wake them with Wake-on-LAN
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Penumbra talks only to the hosts you pair with, on your own network. Pairing,
input, and audio are encrypted, and nothing is collected or sent anywhere else.
REQUIREMENTS
• A Mac running macOS 14 or later
• A PC or device on the same network running Sunshine, the free, open-source
game-streaming host
• AV1 needs an M3 chip or later. HDR needs a host that offers 10-bit video, and
looks best on an HDR display
