Spring Affair
Spring reverb for guitar
$9.99
Six knobs and a tank of springs. Push DRIP for surf, raise TENSION for a tight slap, or roll DECAY out to twelve seconds, longer than any amp's tank ever rang.
Spring Affair is a spring reverb. It makes the sound of the tank of coiled springs that sits in the bottom of an old guitar amp: the drip on a surf lead, the splash when you dig in, the long shimmer behind a slow chord.
You can use it two ways. Open it as an app, plug in a guitar or a microphone, press LIVE and play through it. Or load it as an Audio Unit in GarageBand, Logic Pro, MainStage, AUM or any other AUv3 host and put it on a track.
THE KNOBS
DWELL – How hard your signal hits the springs. Keep it low and the tank stays clean. Turn it up and a hard pick makes it clank and splash, the way a real tank does.
TENSION – How stiff the coils are. Loose gives you the long, wobbly surf sound. Tight gives you a short, focused slap.
DECAY – How long the tail rings, from 0.3 to 12 seconds. Around noon you get the two seconds or so a real tank gives you. The rest of the dial is for when you want more.
DRIP – How much the springs chirp. At zero it is a bright, plain slap. Turned up, every note drips.
TONE – From dark to bright.
MIX – How much reverb you hear against your dry signal.
A STEREO / MONO switch sets the output.
THE SPRINGS MOVE
The middle of the panel shows the tank, and it reacts to what you play. Soft notes make the coils shiver, hard ones make them swing, and they settle as the tail dies out. Tap them and a wave runs down the coils.
PRESETS
Six to start from: Surf Tank, Blackface Tank, Drip Splash, Tight Coil, Slapback Coil and Cavern. Inside a host you can save your own, and they appear in the host's preset menu as well.
AS AN APP
On a Mac, pick the input and the output separately, for example a USB microphone in and headphones out. On an iPad, audio goes wherever iPadOS sends it: plug in an interface or headphones and it follows. TRIM sets the level going into the tank. BYPASS lets your dry signal through and leaves the tail ringing. On iPad, sound keeps playing when the screen locks.
If you play through the built-in microphone, wear headphones. Otherwise the speakers will feed back into it.
ONE PURCHASE FOR MAC AND IPAD
Buy it once and it is yours on both.
PRIVACY
No account, no ads, no tracking. Nothing you play is recorded, and nothing leaves your device.
Requires macOS 14 or later, or iPadOS 17 or later. iPad only, in landscape: the panel is too wide to read on an iPhone.
Ratings & Reviews
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
Spring Affair now runs on iPhone, and the app picks the input you play through.
• iPhone: Spring Affair comes to iPhone, in landscape, with the full panel and a new Audio Setup page.
• Input channel: choose which input of your interface feeds the tank. Guitar on input 2 and a mic on input 1? Pick channel 2 and it goes to both sides. Each interface remembers its own choice.
• Buffer size: set how many frames your interface works with, from 16 to 512. In a DAW or AUv3 host, the host sets this, so the plug-in window stays the same.
