Commentary, Audio, Greek, Maps
$4.99 · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
New: Home Screen widgets, #tags and filters in your journal, and Apple Pencil marks you can print as your own Bible. Your notes now follow you between iPhone and iPad.
Field Bible is a quiet place to read the whole Bible, and to stop and study any verse along the way: with Calvin, Matthew Henry and Spurgeon beside the text, the Hebrew and Greek underneath it, and a map of where it happened.
A DAILY READING, AT YOUR OWN PACE
Each day's reading follows the story of Scripture from Genesis to Acts, with the Psalms, the prophets and the letters read beside the history they belong to, and a chapter of Proverbs alongside. There are no streaks, no deadlines and no catching up. Miss a week and the plan simply waits. Progress is counted from what you have actually read, never from the calendar.
SEVEN BOOKS TO READ ON THEIR OWN
Leviticus, Job, Song of Songs, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Daniel and Revelation sit outside the daily plan. Choose one whenever you are ready and it becomes your daily reading until you finish it.
READ, OR LISTEN
The Berean Standard Bible is the main text, with the King James Version for every book, the Weymouth New Testament for Paul's letters, and Coverdale's Psalms or the 1912 Psalter for the Psalms. Every one of them is narrated, and the text follows the voice verse by verse, even with the screen locked. The whole Bible is also set in type, with each speaker given their own typeface so a conversation reads like one. Jonah and Esther are dramatized too, with a full cast, sound and music.
TAP ANY VERSE
• Commentary from ten classic Reformed writers, including Calvin, Matthew Henry, Matthew Poole, Spurgeon on the Psalms and Jamieson-Fausset-Brown
• The Greek or Hebrew underneath, word by word, with what each word means in that verse and what the grammar carries that English can't
• Where the same passage is told again (Kings and Chronicles, the four Gospels, the Old Testament quoted in the New), plus cross-references ranked by thousands of readers
• Four Bible dictionaries (ISBE, Smith's, Kitto's, and the UBS handbooks on plants, animals and everyday objects) for when you need to know what a thing is: an ephah, hyssop, a Nazirite
SEE WHERE IT HAPPENED
Each chapter has a map of the places it names, with the journeys traced and the ruling empire of the day outlined. Hurlbut's Bible Atlas explains what the land was like in that period, and a carousel of paintings, engravings and photographs shows the scene as artists and travellers recorded it.
WRITE IN IT
Highlight words and verses in your own colours, mark favourites, and write notes as long as you like. Type #prayer or #sermon in a note to tag it. Every note, highlight and favourite is gathered in one journal you can search and filter by tag, book or date, and each opens straight back to its verse.
MARK UP THE PAGE WITH APPLE PENCIL
On iPad, write on the Bible itself. Underline, circle, highlight, bracket a passage or write in the margin, and each mark stays on its words at any text size. Keep separate sets of marks for different studies, then print the books you choose as a PDF with your marks on the page.
ON YOUR HOME SCREEN
Two widgets: today's reading, and one of your favourite verses each day. Ask Siri to open today's reading, and find your notes in Spotlight search.
EASY TO READ
Four typefaces, including Atkinson Hyperlegible for low vision, and text that grows with your iPhone's text size. Light and dark mode and four page tones, with support for Reduce Motion, Increase Contrast and Differentiate Without Color.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
There is no account and nothing to sign in to. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Your reading, notes and marks stay on your devices, and move between your iPhone and iPad only through your own iCloud. Export a backup whenever you like and keep it wherever you choose.
WORKS OFFLINE
The Bible texts, commentaries, dictionaries, maps and original languages are all inside the app. Only the narration and some of the pictures need a connection.
