Hunker warns you when a National Weather Service tornado warning covers the places your family cares about: your home, your parents' house in another state, the kids' school, the lake cabin. It tells you whether the storm is heading into each place and about how many minutes until it gets there.
FREE, AND IT SOUNDS
- Tornado warnings for your first place are always free, including Tornado Emergencies and severe thunderstorms that could spawn a tornado.
- A siren sound made for tornado warnings, sent as a Time Sensitive alert so it can break through Focus.
- A Send test alert button, so you hear exactly what a real warning sounds like on your own phone.
WHAT THE ALERT TELLS YOU
- "Tornado Warning for Home. Until 2:45 AM. Storm moving NE at 40 mph, reaches Home about 2:18 AM. Take shelter now."
- A big countdown and a simple timeline: now, when it reaches your place, when the warning ends.
- Tap the alert and it opens that warning, with the map, the warning area, your place and the storm's direction.
THE WHOLE FAMILY IN ONE LIST (Hunker Pro)
- Up to 10 places, sorted so the most urgent is always on top.
- One alert per warning per place. You get an update when a watch becomes a warning, when a warning is extended or cancelled, and a quiet note when your place is no longer in it.
- Choose every other alert type: severe thunderstorm, flash flood, winter storm, heat, wind and more.
- Quiet hours for alerts that are not life threatening. Tornado, severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings still sound.
- A morning heads-up when the Storm Prediction Center rates the day Enhanced or higher at a place.
- Share your list of places with family.
AFTER THE STORM
- See if hail hit near each address: NOAA radar hail estimates at the address and within 10 miles, the closest rotation track, the warnings that covered it, and ground storm reports nearby.
- History back to October 2020 (Pro).
- A one page PDF with sources for your records or your insurance company (Pro). Radar-derived estimates, not an insurance or engineering determination.
LIVE MAP
- Every active warning in the country, NOAA radar, and your places, with bold, readable city names.
