Meet Stenotypist, your personal stenographer that listens and transcribes in real time, in the background. To activate, simply launch the app. Stenotypist will start transcribing audio from your system audio, microphone or both, depending on how you prefer. Stenotypist is non invasive, and quietly lives in your menu bar. You can start or stop the transcription process whenever you want. Stenotypist is privacy-focused. It does not persist audio. It transcribes via a short, length-configurable memory buffer and saves only the transcribed text. Transcriptions are done locally on your Mac through local AI models, such as Apple's SpeechTranscriber model or the third-party SenseVoice model which can transcribe mixed languages (English, Chinese, Cantonese, Japanese and Korean) at once. You can see the live transcription through your menu bar, or in the transcriptions view, which saves all your current and past transcripts for future reference. Transcripts can be copied, deleted or exported as Markdown (.md) or plain text files (.txt). *Certain features require Stenotypist Pro. Stenotypist requires Macs with Apple Silicon chips. Internet connection is only required for periodic license checks as well as transcription model installations (if a specific model or language has yet been installed).
