Motor Baron: Car Tycoon
Build an American auto empire
Free · In‑App Purchases
It is January 1900. The automobile is a rich man's toy, the roads are mud, and you have $25,000 and an idea. Seventy years later, will your name be on half the cars in America?
Play free through 1909. One purchase unlocks the full game to 1970. No ads, no microtransactions.
Motor Baron is a car company tycoon game played one month at a time. You make every decision: what to build, where to build it, what to charge, and when to bet the company on something new.
THE CAMPAIGN
Nine scenarios, each a different moment in history with its own goals. Start from nothing in Detroit in 1900. Take over a failing Chicago carmaker before the Panic of 1907. Outsell the giant that built the Model T. Run a Philadelphia works through the Great War and win government contracts. Build the sedan America wants in 1920. Earn bronze, silver or gold in each one, and bronze unlocks the next. Run Carrow through the boom just before the 1929 Crash, then start a new company in Kansas City at the bottom of the Depression. Scenario results now post to Game Center leaderboards.
TWELVE REAL CITIES
Pick your hometown and watch it grow. New York, Detroit, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Kansas City, Atlanta, New Orleans, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles and Seattle are drawn after their real maps: the rivers, harbors and lakefronts, the street plans, the rail lines and the bridges. Landmarks appear in the year they were built, from the Brooklyn Bridge to the Space Needle.
YOUR COMPANY ON THE MAP
Tap your head office to start a design, your factory to change output, your showroom to set prices, the bank to borrow and the speedway to enter a race. Zoom out to the whole country to see where you sell and where rivals are moving in.
DESIGN EVERY CAR
Pick the market segment, chassis, suspension, engine, gearbox, body and build quality. As the decades pass, closed sedans, electric starters and steel bodies arrive, and buyers move from runabouts to coupes, station wagons, compacts and pony cars.
BUILD THE FACTORIES
Start with craftsmen at benches. Move up to machine shops, the moving assembly line and powered conveyors. Buy your own steel mill, tire plant and glass works to cut costs. Put lines on war work, or bid for government contracts with a car built to the buyer's needs.
BEAT YOUR RIVALS
Dozens of rival carmakers launch new models, cut prices and push into your regions. Watch the market, find the gaps, go public, buy shares in your rivals and take them over.
LIVE THROUGH HISTORY
The Panic of 1907, the Great War, the Roaring Twenties, the Crash, the Depression, wartime army contracts and the postwar boom all reshape your market. Or start fresh in sandbox mode with Random history or Anything goes, so no two games are alike.
LIVE LIKE A BARON
Spend your fortune on a mansion, a steam yacht or a private railroad car. Or give it away and put your name on libraries and hospitals that rise in your town.

Two new campaign scenarios. Scenario 8, Arsenal of Democracy, drops you into Detroit in 1940 as the war economy takes over. Scenario 9, The Postwar Boom, starts in Los Angeles in 1946, when the whole country wants a new car. Both post to Game Center leaderboards.
Also new: market research can run on two projects at once, and on cars you have not built yet. You can bid on government contracts straight from a factory on the map. During the war, dealers and sales are judged fairly while civilian building is halted, the corporate office shrinks to a skeleton staff, races and auto shows stop, and a full-screen message marks the end of the war. Los Angeles has a redrawn river with proper bridges, a Hollywood hillside sign and a movie studio lot. Government bid windows read more clearly and no longer jump back to the top when you change lines.
