klar. is a quiet place to write. A minimalist Markdown editor for the Mac, made for essays, novels, journals, blog posts and everyday notes – anything that starts with a blank page.
WRITE, DON'T FORMAT
klar. writes plain Markdown and hides the symbols until the caret reaches them. Headings look like headings, bold looks bold, and the page stays clean. Select a word and a format bar rises above it; type / on an empty line for headings, lists, tables and more.
STAY IN THE SENTENCE
• Focus mode hides everything around the page.
• Highlight dims all but the sentence or paragraph you are in.
• Typewriter mode keeps your line in the middle of the window.
• Reader mode shows the page without any syntax, ready to read.
• Writing goals of 250, 500, 1,000 or 2,000 words, with a live word count.
YOUR FILES, YOUR FOLDER
Every document is an ordinary .md file in a folder you pick – on your Mac, in iCloud Drive or anywhere else. No account, no sign-up, no lock-in. Open the same files in any other editor, today or in ten years.
NOTHING GETS LOST
klar. saves as you type and keeps a version of every save. Compare earlier drafts and restore any of them.

• Fixed a crash when resizing the window with the inspector open
• Typing stays smooth in very long documents
• The sentence highlight keeps quotations and abbreviations like "e.g." together, and dims a finished sentence right away
• Scrolling is steadier: no more jumps while typing, Enter glides along, and the end of a document is always in reach
• Turning Typewriter mode off glides instead of jumping
• Outline jumps bring the heading to the top, and moved sections stay in view
• The slash menu opens upward on the last lines
• Click below the text to continue on the last line
• Smaller fixes for code blocks and the caret on empty lines
