Names Hidden in the Clouds
A woodblock-print mystery
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
June 19, 2029: the morning a mountain railway turns one hundred.
Ai, an apprentice woodblock printer, arrives at the workshop to find the door shut, a note from her master, and a single carved block.
"Collect the eight blocks and print at Kawaguchiko."
Rain clouds hide Mt. Fuji from everywhere. From Otsuki up to Kawaguchiko: eighteen stations and a climb of 499 meters.
Inside a print that was carved in 1929 and never published, someone has hidden names in the clouds.
- Point at a Fuji you cannot see
Every station's skyline is computed from real terrain. Find the bearing of a mountain hidden by clouds and ridges, and point at it in the panorama.
- Eight blocks, one picture
Register the paper, work out the printing order, grade the sky. With each new block the same picture shows a little more of what it really is. At the end, tilt your phone: light runs across the paper and names rise from the embossing.
- At home or on the train
In Fujizuka mode, at home, every puzzle can be solved without any sensors.
In ride mode, aboard the real train, the app tells which station you are at from changes in air pressure. It never uses your location, and you never need to get off along the way.
- A story about work that leaves no name
People who clean the waterways, who walk the track at night, who weave the linings of famous clothes. At each station Ai meets someone whose work carries no name. Not horror, not romance: one day in the life of a craftsman and his apprentice.
Fully playable with subtitles only.
