Paste a runbook and see what would break it before it runs: curly quotes, stray prompts and code fences are pointed out. Japanese, Chinese and Korean input stays intact. ArcanaTerm is a terminal client for working on SSH servers from iPhone and iPad. Nothing you paste runs until you have seen it: a paste goes into a field below the terminal, where you check and edit it, then send it all at once or one command at a time. WHY A PASTE SHOULD NOT GO STRAIGHT TO THE SERVER A runbook copied from a web page or a chat carries things that look right and fail: curly quotes where the shell needs straight ones, a dash where an option needed "--", a Markdown code fence, a "$ " prompt copied along with the command. In most terminals a keyboard's predictions and a pasted clipboard go straight to the server before anyone has checked them. HOW ARCANATERM HANDLES IT Below the terminal is an ordinary text field, the staging panel. Typing and pasting happen there; you review and edit, then tap Send. Return inserts a new line — it never sends. The terminal's own keyboard has autocorrect and capitals off, and can be switched to Japanese to type straight into the remote; several lines inserted into it move to the staging panel by themselves. Esc, Tab, Ctrl, Alt and the arrow keys are on a key bar above the keyboard. TOOLS FOR RUNNING A RUNBOOK SAFELY • Paste inspection: finds typographic quotes and dashes, Markdown code fences, "$ " prompts, full-width spaces, and full-width symbols typed in full-width mode, and tells you. It never rewrites anything silently. • Step execution: sends one command at a time, checks its exit code, and stops at the first failure. • Copy output: copies just the previous command's output (OSC 133 shell integration). JAPANESE, CHINESE AND KOREAN INPUT In most terminals, typing happens on a grid of one character per cell, and text being converted by an input method keeps changing length. In ArcanaTerm it is converted in the staging panel, where it never passes through the grid, so a runbook with Japanese, Chinese or Korean comments can be pasted and run exactly as written. FEATURES • SSH (password, public key, keyboard-interactive) with host key verification; a list of trusted host keys, which can be forgotten • Generate and export ed25519 SSH keys, and install a public key on the server you are connected to • SFTP file browser with a resumable transfer queue and bookmarks (ArcanaTerm Plus) • Port forwarding, jump hosts, HTTP/SOCKS proxies • A lost SSH connection reconnects by itself, and the tabs open last time can reopen at start • Shift_JIS, EUC-JP, GBK, Big5 and EUC-KR, per host • Snippets with variables, sent history, session logs, and a work record of each command with its exit code and output • A mark on the tab when a long command finishes out of sight (with OSC 133 shell integration) • Scrollback search, output highlighting, sending to several sessions at once • Long-press to copy or open the menu; pinch to zoom the text • On iPad: hardware keyboards, tabs, Split View and Stage Manager. New in 1.2.1 • Work record: each command's text, start and end times, exit code and output, added as it finishes to a Markdown or text file you choose • Auto-reconnect: a lost SSH connection comes back by itself once ArcanaTerm is on screen, asking nothing and resending nothing you sent • Reopen the tabs that were open last time (in Settings, off by default) • When a command that ran 30 seconds or more finishes in a tab you are not looking at, the tab is marked (with OSC 133 shell integration) • Snippet variables: write {{?name}} or {{?name=default}}, and the value is asked for before the snippet is staged • GBK, Big5 and EUC-KR, per host • Full-width symbols such as （ ） and ＝, left by an input method in full-width mode, are pointed out where the shell reads them • Chinese and Korean text is drawn in that language's fonts, in the terminal and the interface Changed and fixed in 1.2.1 • Bracketed paste markers go only where the program asks for them, so a file written by cat, or a password prompt, receives exactly what you send • Shift_JIS: the character after an invalid byte pair is no longer lost • The terminal's keyboard can be switched to Japanese, and Japanese goes straight into the terminal too, for vim and the like; autocorrect and capitals stay off • Settings ▸ Keyboard shows the shortcuts with ⌘, not Ctrl • Many more fixes from a review of the whole app: among them, a failed file transfer no longer destroys the file it was replacing, and a send no longer mixes with one still going out
