Cosmoscape
Earth, Moon & Solar System
Free · In‑App Purchases
See tonight's sky over your city as it really looks: natural twilight colors, moonlight, and the Sun and the Moon setting behind the mountains.
See Earth, the Moon, and the Solar System in real-time 3D, placed where real astronomy puts them. In the Solar System, the planets and the Moon follow JPL's DE441 planetary ephemeris. Over your city, the Moon is calculated for your exact place, date, and time.
Watch day and night sweep across the globe, find tonight's Moon above your city, follow its phases and libration, or travel through the Solar System anywhere from the year 1026 to 3026.
EARTH
- A detailed 3D globe with NASA Blue Marble imagery and terrain relief
- Daylight and night move across the planet, with city lights on the night side
- See Earth, the Moon, and the Sun together and move through time
MOON WATCHING
- Choose a city and see where the Moon and Sun are in its sky, calculated for that place, date, and time
- The sky dome shows the planets, about 8,800 stars from the Hipparcos catalog, constellation lines, and bright deep-sky objects
- A natural sky from a physical sky model: daylight, twilight, and night colors, moonlight that brightens the sky, and stars that come out as it gets dark. The Sun and the Moon set behind the mountains on the horizon
- Look at the dome from outside to understand the geometry of the sky, or step inside for a fisheye view from the ground
- Search the sky by name for a star, planet, constellation, or deep-sky object, and the view follows it, with a marker that stays on it even below the horizon
- Follow any constellation as it rises and sets above your city, projected onto the sky dome like a planetarium, with IAU or Modern constellation figures
MOON CALENDAR
- Phase, age, and illumination for any date, with moonrise, moonset, sunrise, and sunset
- A 3D Moon whose orientation and libration change from day to day, with craters lit by the Sun
- Jump to Moon Watching to see that night's sky
SOLAR SYSTEM
- Planets and the Moon move along positions from the DE441 ephemeris, not circular animations
- Planet orbits, a Moon orbit that follows its real distance and tilt, and adjustable planet size
- Saturn's rings tilted and lit as on the real planet for any date
- Speed time up from 1 minute to 30 days per second, run it backward, or stop and look around
- Tap a planet to see its information card
- Planet View: the camera slowly circles one planet, then moves on to the next one you chose
TOURS
Let Cosmoscape fly you around Earth, the Moon, and the planets.

What's New in 1.3
MOON WATCHING
• A new, natural sky. Day, twilight and night colors now come from a physical sky model, moonlight brightens the night sky, and the stars you see depend on how dark the sky is.
• The Sun reddens near the horizon, glows in the sky and sits at its apparent (refracted) altitude.
• Mountains on the outer dome's horizon now hide the Sun, the Moon, their trails and the tracked constellation when they go behind them.
• Compass labels stand outside the outer dome, and the tracked constellation is drawn with thinner lines.
• In the fisheye view, the Moon and the Sun stay round even at the edge of the screen.
SOLAR SYSTEM
• Saturn's rings are now tilted as on the real planet and lit from the correct side for the date. Since 2025 the Sun lights their south face, so seen from above the rings show their dark side, just like the real Saturn.
• The time speed slider now moves in clear steps, from 1 minute to 30 days per second.
LAYERS
• Earth, Moon Watching and Solar System each have their own Milky Way brightness.
FIXES
• The view no longer jumps after zooming the outer dome, or while the camera turns back to a moving target.
• Moon tracking no longer stops after zooming the outer dome.
