LinguaPair is a language-learning app for two people who learn together – couples first, but any pair. One of you speaks Vietnamese and the other Russian? One learns Spanish while the other learns Korean? Every pairing works, and it works alone too.
TEN LANGUAGES, ANY PAIRING
English, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Vietnamese, Japanese and Korean – each one both a language to learn and the language of the app. Each partner picks their own language, or two.
COURSES FROM A0 TO C2
Courses written in advance to a fixed curriculum and reviewed: around fifty units and more than three hundred lessons per language, with lectures, exercises, reading passages and reviews. A0 teaches the writing system – hiragana and katakana, hangul, Cyrillic, the Vietnamese alphabet and tones – with stroke order and audio. A1 starts speaking from the first lesson. Right at the start you choose: take the level test, A1 to C2, and begin at your level – or start from zero with the alphabet and first words.
A LIVE TRANSLATOR FOR REAL CONVERSATIONS
Speak in your own language; your partner hears theirs. On one phone held between you, or on two phones apart. The words you needed most are picked out afterwards and offered to your vocabulary trainer.
VOCABULARY THAT COMES FROM YOUR LIFE
A spaced-repetition trainer that schedules each word just before you would forget it. Words arrive from your conversations, lessons, reading and films – each with an example sentence and audio.
LEARN WITH FILMS AND READING
Pick a film, upload its subtitles, and learn a few of its words a day, together. Short reading texts at your level come with a glossary and a voice-over.
GAMES FOR TWO
Play in real time: the translation duel, the vocabulary race, Word Scramble and True or False – against your partner, or against Robo when they are away. Two team games, In Sync and Know Me, put you on the same side: pick the same answer without talking, or guess your partner’s favourite. Streaks and XP keep you both going.
PAIR CHALLENGES
A challenge for the two of you with a deadline – for example, 7 lessons together. Reach the goal as a pair and you both keep the badge.
