Open the app. One tap shows the distance from you. Choose your own start, or draw a fixed circle around it. Free, no account, no setup. Open the app. One tap. See the distance from you. Hunting Distance opens straight on aerial imagery of the area around you, centered on you, with no account and no setup. Free. It is made for people who spend time in forest and field and want to know how far it is: from a hunting tower to the forest edge, from your stand to a clearing, or between any two places on the map. HOW IT WORKS • Open the app: the map is centered on you and "From you" is selected • Tap one spot: the distance from you to the spot is shown large at the bottom, and a ring around you shows that distance • Tap another spot to move the target • Tap Clear to start over CHOOSE WHERE TO MEASURE FROM A selector at the top of the box at the bottom lets you choose: • From you (the default): every tap measures from your GPS position, at any distance. This needs location access and a usable GPS signal. • From point: you pick the start yourself. Your first tap sets the start point and your second tap measures to the target. Further taps move the target. Drag the start marker to move the start. This also works without a GPS signal, so you can plan from home. A ring around the start point, with a radius equal to the measured distance, shows what else lies at the same distance. Switching between the two clears the current measurement. When you close the app it resets, so the next time you open it you are back in "From you" and one tap measures from your position. FIXED CIRCLE Tap the circle button above the search button and choose a radius from 10 to 1,000 m: quick picks for 100, 130, 150 and 200, or fine-tune with − and + (hold to repeat). Tap Done and a circle with that radius is drawn around the start point: your position in "From you" (the circle follows your GPS position) or the start marker in "From point". The circle is independent of the measurement, so Clear removes the measurement but not the circle. When you measure, the app tells you in text how far the target is outside or inside the circle, for example "67 m outside the circle" with a checkmark, or "40 m inside the circle". Remove the circle with None or by tapping the radius chip. The radius is remembered, but the circle is off every time you open the app. You can use it, for example, to see whether a spot is farther than a set distance from a hunting tower. The circle is a visual aid only (see Honest about accuracy). SEARCH FOR PLACES Search for a place name or an address and the map flies there and drops a marker. Then measure from there: tap a start point and a target, or let the app measure from you. The aerial imagery shows place names so you can find your way. METERS OR YARDS Distances follow your iPhone's settings: meters and kilometers, or yards and miles if your iPhone is set to the US or UK. HONEST ABOUT ACCURACY Hunting Distance is a guidance tool. Distances are calculated straight-line distances between two points. Your iPhone's GPS always has some uncertainty, especially under trees and dense cover, and Apple's aerial imagery does not state how accurately the picture is positioned, so a point on the image may be offset from the real world. Use judgment and common sense, and do not let the app replace your own overview or applicable rules. The fixed circle is a visual aid: the app cannot tell you whether something is allowed or not. PRIVACY • No account, no ads, no tracking • Your location is used only while the app is open, and only on your iPhone. It is not stored and is not sent to us • Aerial imagery and place search are provided by Apple, so what you type in search and the map area are sent to Apple. We receive nothing • The app collects no data GOOD TO KNOW • Danish, English, Finnish, German, Norwegian and Swedish • Works in portrait and landscape • Aerial imagery and search need an internet connection.
