Noat: Markdown App
Markdown, plain and simple
Only for Mac
$3.99
Mac
The simplest way to read and write Markdown on a Mac. Your .md files open rendered, edit in place with Cmd+E, and export to PDF, HTML or Word. No library, no account.
Noat is the simplest way to read and write Markdown on a Mac. It opens one plain .md file at a time, shows it the way it is meant to look, and gets out of the way. No library, no sidebar, no split pane, no account.
READING
• A .md file opens rendered — headings, lists, checklists, tables, quotes and code, set in a proper text column
• Open it from Finder, the Dock or File › Open, and make Noat your default Markdown app
• ⌘-click a link to follow it to the next note without leaving the app, then ⌘[ and ⌘] to walk back and forward
• Find and replace across the note, ⌘G for the next match
WRITING
• ⌘E starts editing in place. The Markdown appears on the line the caret is on, and steps aside when you move away
• Bold, italic, strikethrough, headings, lists, checklists, quotes, code blocks, links and tables, from the menu, the keyboard, or the bar that floats over a selection
• Optional smart lists: bullets, numbering, checkboxes and quotes carry on to the next line for you
• Focus mode dims everything but the block you are in; typewriter scrolling keeps it centred
• The file autosaves, and Noat picks up changes made to it by anything else
EVERYTHING ELSE IS ⌘K
One search for formatting, recent files, export, settings and the rest, instead of a wall of toolbars.
EXPORT
• PDF, paginated for US Letter or A4, with optional page numbers
• HTML as one self-contained file, typeface included
• Word (.docx), with the styles mapped
• Or copy the whole note as HTML and paste it into something else
PLAIN FILES, NOTHING ELSE
Noat reads and writes ordinary .md files wherever you already keep them: iCloud Drive, Dropbox, a git repo, the Desktop. It has no library and no database of its own, so there is nothing to import and nothing to get trapped in. There is no account, and the app has no network access at all — it is sandboxed without the entitlement that would let it connect to anything.
