Soft Day: Irish Weather
Ireland's forecast, quietly
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
The most accurate short-range weather there is for Ireland, from the people who write it.
Soft Day shows Met Eireann's forecast for exactly where you are: the temperature now, the hours ahead, the week ahead, and the words Met Eireann's forecasters write every morning for your part of the country. All of it on a sky that looks like the one outside your window: grey and heavy when it is overcast, clear with a low sun on a bright evening, streaked when it rains.
WHY IT IS MORE ACCURATE
Irish weather is made over the Atlantic, and it changes by the hour. Most weather apps blend global models that treat Ireland as a few grid squares; they are fine for a week-ahead feel and often wrong about this afternoon. Met Eireann runs a 2.5 km model over Ireland several times a day and has forecasters on duty around the clock who check it against the radar and write down what they expect. Soft Day puts that written forecast, unedited, at the centre of the screen. No forecast is perfect; this one is written by people who are looking at the same sky as you.
WHAT YOU GET
- The forecast for your own neighbourhood, not just your county
- Met Eireann's written forecast for today, tonight, tomorrow and the days ahead
- Twenty-four hours and seven days at a glance
- Wind, gusts, humidity, pressure, cloud and rain for the next day
- Weather warnings for your county, shown exactly as Met Eireann issues them
WIDGETS EVERYWHERE
- Home Screen: the sky, the coming hours, the forecaster's words, and Rain Ahead: when the rain starts and stops over the next twelve hours
- Lock Screen: the sky, a temperature ring against today's low and high, and a rain widget that says when it starts or stops
- Apple Watch: the same as complications, in every slot including the corners
SOFT DAY PLUS, ONE PURCHASE
- Moments: ask once, in your own words. "Can I hang the washing out?" "Will it rain on the school run?" One answer a day, at the time you choose, and silence when there is nothing to say
- Your places: home, work, the parents. Swipe between them
- The forecaster's words as a Home Screen widget
Everything else in Soft Day is free, always.
QUIET BY DESIGN
No account. No ads. No tracking. Only a position rounded to a few kilometres ever leaves your phone, and only to Met Eireann.
A "soft day" is what Irish people call mild, misty, drizzly weather. The app is built for the whole range.
