The New File menu Mac never had. Right-click in any Finder folder, choose New File and pick a type. The file appears right where you are, already named and selected. No app to open first, no Save dialog, no dragging files around. HOW IT WORKS 1. Right-click empty space in a Finder window, a folder or the sidebar. 2. Choose New File and pick a type. 3. Your file is created in that folder, with a unique name, and selected for you. 42 FILE TYPES • Everyday: Text, Markdown, Rich Text, CSV, PDF • Office: Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), PowerPoint (.pptx) • OpenDocument: ODT, ODS, ODP • Web & styles: HTML, CSS, SCSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, JSX, TSX • Languages: Swift, Python, Shell, SQL, Go, Rust, Java, C, C++, Ruby, PHP • Config: JSON, YAML, XML, TOML, Property List, .env, package.json, tsconfig.json • Project files: Dockerfile, Makefile, .gitignore • Documents: LaTeX, SVG Office and PDF files are real, valid documents that open in your favorite apps. Shell scripts arrive with a shebang and the executable bit already set. YOUR OWN TEMPLATES Drop any file or folder into the Templates folder and it shows up in the menu. Text templates fill in placeholders when they are created: {{date}}, {{time}}, {{datetime}}, {{year}}, {{filename}}, {{basename}}, {{folder}}, {{author}} and {{uuid}}. Perfect for meeting notes, READMEs, licenses and project scaffolds. CLIPBOARD TO FILE Copied some text? It becomes a .txt file. Copied an image? It becomes a .png. One click, no paste dance. KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS Give any file type or template its own shortcut. It appears next to the item in the New File menu, so you can pick it from the keyboard as soon as the menu opens. MAKE IT YOURS • Drag file types into the order you want • Hide the ones you never use • Keep favorites at the top, the rest under More • Choose the default file name and author • Select the new file, open it, or both • Light and dark mode, file or symbol icons • Optional menu bar icon and launch at login PRIVATE BY DESIGN QuickFile only creates files in folders you allow. Grant your Home folder once and Desktop, Documents and Downloads are covered. Nothing leaves your Mac: no accounts, no analytics, no tracking.
