Can you beat a chimp? Span is a 4-minute attention span test built on classic lab tasks: reaction time, a go/no-go focus stream, symbol–digit speed and the chimp memory test.

THE TEST: 4 ROUNDS, ABOUT 4 MINUTES
• Spark: tap when the circle lights up. Your reaction time in milliseconds (shown, not scored).
• Lock-in: numbers flash for about 60 seconds. Tap for every number except 3.
• Cipher: turn symbols into numbers, as many as you can in 45 seconds.
• Chimp: numbers appear on a grid. Tap 1 and the rest hide. Tap them in order from memory.
YOUR SPAN AGE
• An age you can lower: it starts at your age group and moves younger or older by how you play against people your age. A game score, not a medical test.
• Under it, your Span Score from 1 to 99: the share of people your age we expect you to beat, on provisional age norms, with an honest ± range.
• Your archetype and three brag receipts (longest Lock-in streak, numbers held in Chimp, reaction time) on a card sized for stories.

THE CHIMP TEST
In 2007, a young chimpanzee named Ayumu recalled five numbers flashed for 210 ms about 80% of the time; university students tested alongside him managed about 40%. Ayumu had many practice sessions, the students none. Take the 5-round dare. (Inoue & Matsuzawa, Current Biology, 2007)
DAILY SPAN: ABOUT A MINUTE
• One challenge a day, the same for everyone: the 60-second chimp climb or Ayumu 210, five flashes at 210 ms each.
• One counted run a day. Share your grid without giving the board away.
• A forgiving streak: rest days are banked, and you can repair a broken streak once every 30 days.
21 GAMES, 30 LEVELS EACH
• Earn 1 to 3 stars a level. Stars earn each game's mastery badges, Bronze to Diamond.
• Playing earns XP toward your rank, Rookie to Legend. Your skill map shows Speed, Memory, Focus, Logic and Spatial.
• Every 5th level is a boss that takes 2 stars, and each game changes as you climb.
PLAY TOGETHER
• Duel, Tempo Duel, Shade Race and Number Race: two players, one device. Memory Pairs for up to 4.
• Play any level with friends on one device, or send a link: your friend plays the same board.

• New subscribers get every game, every level and the 4-week plan free for 14 days. Cancel at least 24 hours before it ends and you pay nothing.

Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase (after the free trial, if any). Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; renewal is charged within 24 hours before the period ends.
