PearOffice
Share files, no account
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Spreadsheets, documents and slides you share with a link and edit together. No account, no server and no cloud copy of your files.
PearOffice is spreadsheets, documents and slides you share with a link and edit together, straight between your devices. No account, no subscription and no company holding a copy of your files.
SPREADSHEETS, DOCUMENTS AND SLIDES
- Spreadsheets with around 400 formulas, charts, filters, comments, cell formats and colour rules
- Documents with headings, lists, tables, pictures and links
- Slides with layouts, shapes, pictures, charts and themes, and a presenter view
- Open and save Excel, Word and PowerPoint files, plus CSV, Markdown and PDF
EDIT TOGETHER, LIVE
Send someone an invite link. Each link works once and lasts 24 hours, and you choose whether they can edit or only view. Everyone in a file sees each other's changes as they happen, and who is working where. The owner can remove someone at any time, and they see nothing new after that.
NO ACCOUNT, NO SERVER
Your files live on your devices and the devices of the people you share them with, and sync directly between them, encrypted. There is nothing to sign up for. Your identity is a key made on your phone, and a 12-word recovery phrase brings it back on a new device.
USE ALL YOUR DEVICES
Link your iPhone, iPad and Mac once and they keep the same files.
AN OPTIONAL SEEDER
Files sync while the people in them are online. A seeder is a device you leave running, such as a home server or your own computer, that keeps an encrypted copy so everyone catches up even when nobody else is online. It cannot read your files.
WHEN A DIRECT CONNECTION IS NOT POSSIBLE
Some networks block direct connections between devices. PearOffice can then fall back to a relay run by PeerLoom, which passes on encrypted data it cannot read and keeps nothing. You can turn this off in Settings.
PearOffice has no ads, no tracking and no analytics, and is MIT licensed.

New Features
- Folders. Sort your files into folders. Press and hold a file to move it. Your folders are the same on all your devices and come back with your recovery phrase
- Tags. Give any file as many tags as you like, each with its own colour. Only you see your tags unless you choose to share them with a file
- Search your files by name, or tap one or more tags to see the files that have all of them. Searching also looks inside your folders
- PDFs and pictures. Add PDFs and photos (including iPhone HEIC photos) up to 25 MB. They sit in your folders next to everything else, and you can tag, share, back up and view them. Location data is removed from photos when you add them
- Templates. Turn any file into a template and start new files from it. New also comes with a ready-made Budget, Recipe, Meeting notes and Simple deck
- Version history. Sheets, documents and slides keep their earlier versions. See who changed what and when, and restore any earlier version
- Links in spreadsheet cells. Link a cell to a web page, an email address, another tab, a cell, or one of your files or folders. Web addresses you type become links on their own
- Coloured dropdowns in sheets and documents. Pick from a list of choices, each with its own colour. Sheets can allow more than one choice
- Smart chips. Type @ in a cell or a document to add a person, a file, a folder or a date. A person's name stays up to date, and a file opens with a tap
- Links on pictures and shapes in documents and slides
- Links to PearCal. Link a cell, some text or a slide to a PearCal event or day
- Copy link. Every file and folder has Copy link in its menu. Opening the link takes you straight there
- LibreOffice files. Open and save .ods spreadsheets, .odt documents and .odp presentations
- Click cells while typing a formula to add them, as in Excel
- A gentle buzz when you tap a button
Improvements
- Press and hold a file to open its menu
- Menus are grouped under headings such as File, Data and Save as, and fit on the screen
- Toolbars fade at the edge when there are more tools to scroll to
- Shared files show the faces of the people in them, with the owner on top
- A simpler Seeder screen with one button to scan a seeder's QR code, and a count of how many files each seeder backs up
- Plain text in sheets is now size 11, the same as documents and Excel
Privacy
- QR codes are read inside the app, without Google's scanning library
Bug Fixes
- Pairing a seeder again after you stopped using it now backs up your files again
- Links in documents work as they should
- The box around a cell you are editing stays the size of the cell
- The font size list shows the size instead of "Size"
- Fixed a rare case where changes to your file list made on two devices at once could be missed
