A live city map wallpaper for Mac. Pick a city and palette, set the drift speed and direction, and watch an animated map glide quietly behind your desktop icons.
Drifting Map is a live wallpaper for Mac: a quietly moving city map that glides behind your desktop icons.
Pick a city, choose a palette in Light or Dark, then set the drift speed and direction or let the map follow your mouse. Every connected display gets its own animated map wallpaper, and the app lives in the menu bar so it never gets in the way.
MAKE IT YOURS
• Built-in palettes, each with Light and Dark appearances
• Search any city or try Random City
• Five map zoom levels and five drift speeds
• Follow Mouse or set a drift direction
• Pause and resume whenever you like
• A separate map view on every connected display
• Automatically pauses when your Mac sleeps or a display is off
BUILT TO SAVE POWER (NEW IN 1.1)
Optional Power settings, all off by default, keep your Mac cool and your battery going:
• Pause when a full-screen app covers the desktop
• Pause after 10 minutes without keyboard or mouse input
• Lower the frame rate to 30 fps on battery, in Low Power Mode or when your Mac runs hot
MADE FOR THE DESKTOP
Open settings from the menu bar map icon, or press Command-comma while Drifting Map is active. Your preferences stay on your Mac.
MAPS AND PRIVACY
Drifting Map uses Apple Maps to search for cities and request map imagery for the selected region. Apple handles these requests under its privacy policy. Drifting Map has no accounts, ads, analytics, tracking, app server, in-app purchases, or trials. Preferences are stored locally. Map imagery is processed temporarily in memory and is not saved to disk or exported.
Map colours are estimated from rendered map imagery, so details can vary by city and zoom. Requires macOS 15 or later.
