Make a PDF fit an upload limit without touching the original, then see page by page whether the smaller copy still reads clearly. Everything stays on your Mac.
Upload-Ready PDF makes a PDF small enough for a website's upload limit, keeps your original exactly as it was, and checks whether the smaller copy is still easy to read before you send it.
Choose a PDF, pick the limit, and click Make It Fit. You get a separate copy, your original beside it for comparison, and a plain answer on size, readability and what the document kept.
FITS THE LIMIT, EXACTLY
• Choose Under 500 KB, 1 MB, 2 MB, 5 MB, 10 MB or 20 MB, or type your own limit. "Under 2 MB" means files of at most 1,999,999 bytes, and the app shows you the exact number.
• Gentle settings come first. The app picks the copy that fits and reads best, never simply the smallest.
• It aims to leave a little room below the limit, and tells you when it can't.
• If your PDF already fits, it says so and offers an identical copy.
YOUR ORIGINAL STAYS UNTOUCHED
• The app works on a private copy. It never writes to, renames or moves your file.
• The result is saved as a new file, and the app refuses to save over the original.
• Every saved copy is checked against the result you approved.
CHECKS THE RESULT, NOT JUST THE SIZE
• Text recognition reads the original and the result, and a picture comparison looks for detail that faded or vanished.
• Pages where words or numbers no longer read the same are flagged and outlined, so you can look before you send.
• Barcodes and QR codes are checked to make sure they still scan.
• Each result reads No problems detected, Review recommended, or Significant degradation detected. A copy with a serious warning is never chosen for you, and if a check couldn't run in full, the app says so.
• See both versions side by side, zoomed and scrolled together, and jump straight to the next page needing review.
KEEPS WHAT MATTERS
• The first method shrinks only the pictures inside your PDF and copies everything else exactly, so fillable forms and their values, attached files, layers, links, bookmarks and accessibility tags stay as they were.
• If a copy that fits would lose something, the app lists exactly what before you save. It never saves a copy that is damaged or has lost something essential.
FOR SCANNED DOCUMENTS
• Scan Copy rebuilds simple scans at a controlled resolution and quality, in colour, grayscale or black and white. Black and white makes typed pages far smaller.
• It is offered only when it is safe: never for documents with real text, links, forms or similar features it would lose, and never switched on without you.
LEAVE OUT PAGES
• Drop a cover sheet or a blank back page from the copy with Choose Pages. Your original keeps every page, and bookmarks and links to the pages you keep still work.
PRIVATE
• Your documents are processed on your Mac. This app does not send them to a server.
• No account, no analytics, no document history. Working copies are removed when you close the document or quit.
GOOD TO KNOW
• Signed and password-protected PDFs aren't compressed, because any change would break the signature, and the app never removes protection. If one already fits, you can still save an identical copy.
• The readability check is careful evidence, not a guarantee. Look over any page it flags, and the figures that matter most, before you send.
• It never sharpens, straightens or cleans up pages, and never adds a text layer.
• One document at a time. Requires macOS 14 or later.
GETTING STARTED
Drag a PDF onto the window or the Dock icon, choose File › Choose PDF…, or use Open With in Finder. Pick your limit and click Make It Fit.
