Foldtone: Fold Synth
Music you play by folding
$2.99 · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Music you play by folding. Tap to bloom, play the crease like a string, close the book and the piece sleeps. Fold on iPhone Duo, the whole instrument on every iPhone.
Foldtone is a musical toy with no goal and no score. Tap anywhere and a note blooms. Every note you play comes back a few seconds later, a little softer and a little somewhere else, until a piece grows out of nothing. You can't play a wrong note.
FOLD IT (on iPhone Duo)
Fold the phone while it plays and the sound bends with it: flat is pure bells, half folded is bright and buzzing, nearly closed is dark and murmuring. The crease is a string: tap it to pluck, drag along it to bow. Fold the phone partway and the crease becomes a mirror that answers every note from the other side. Close the book and the piece goes to sleep; open it and it wakes.
WORKS ON EVERY iPHONE
On any iPhone you get the whole instrument: the blooms, the echo, the string across the middle. Drag two fingers down to fold the sound by hand.
WHAT'S INSIDE
• Four voices, all synthesized live: Bell, Glass, Mist, Wood
• Five scales and twelve keys; an optional note grid shows what you're about to play
• Echo you can shorten, lengthen or switch off
• A fold effect you can tune from subtle to wild
• Three palettes: Night, Dawn, Deep
• Haptics that let you feel the string
• One-tap recording to an audio file you can share
• Optional: it can keep playing by itself when you stop, gently, if you let it
NO SCREEN TIME TRICKS
No ads, no accounts, no tracking, nothing collected. Everything is generated on your phone: no samples, no artwork, no network. Recordings stay in your own share sheet.
Requires iOS 27. The fold features are available on iPhone Duo; everything else works on every iPhone.
