Lacing: Beer Exam Prep
Cicerone & BJCP Study
$9.99 · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Certified Beer Server, Certified Cicerone and BJCP entrance exams, with mock exams that use the real question counts and time limits. Every style on one map.
Lacing prepares you for the Cicerone Certified Beer Server and Certified Cicerone exams and for the BJCP Beer Judge entrance and judging exams. A fifth route, without an exam, is for anyone who wants to taste with more confidence.
Pick your exam and the app builds a route through it: 102 lessons written for the published syllabi, 3,810 questions, 1,248 flashcards and 30 timed mock exams.
MOCK EXAMS THAT MATCH THE PAPER
Each mock uses the real question count, time limit and pass mark of its exam. Certified Cicerone mocks add the written paper: 434 short-answer questions and 25 essays that you mark against key points and a model answer. BJCP judging practice gives you 40 scoresheet exercises. Mock questions stay out of practice until you have sat that mock, so the score means something.
THE STYLE MAP
95 beer styles on one map by color and bitterness, with numbers from the BJCP 2021 guidelines and the 2015 edition beside them. Switch to taste, compare two styles, or open a style card and tilt the phone to look through the beer the way you hold a glass to the light.
LESSONS BUILT ON SOURCES
Every number in a lesson links to its source. Descriptions are written in our own words.
PRACTICE THAT ADAPTS
Lesson quizzes, weak-area review and spaced-repetition cards (FSRS) bring back what you are about to forget. A daily glass fills as you study.
TOOLS YOU USE AT THE BAR
Draft lab: every part of the system, a balance bench and a troubleshooting tree.
The nose: 24 off-flavors to learn by smell, a blind round and a flavor wheel.
Glass and pour: 16 glasses, the pour and beer-clean glassware.
Pairing table: 72 pairings by complement, contrast and cut.
Ingredient shelf: 116 hops, malts, adjuncts, yeasts and water profiles.
Calculators: ABV, color, bitterness, carbonation and serving.
Glossary: 531 terms.
Tasting notebook: a six-step note with an optional BJCP scoresheet, photos, and PDF or text sharing.
MADE FOR DAILY STUDY
Statistics, badges, bookmarks, reminders, Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, a Control Center control, Shortcuts, and a Lock Screen countdown during mock exams. Search finds lessons, styles, cards and terms in any spelling.
English and Turkish interface. Study content stays in English, the language of the exams. In Turkish, every lesson opens with a Turkish summary, and terms can be tapped for their Turkish equivalent.
Works offline. No account, no ads, no subscription. Lacing collects no data; your progress stays on your device and, if you turn sync on, in your own iCloud.
Lacing teaches beer; it does not encourage drinking more of it. Know the law where you live.
Lacing is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the Cicerone Certification Program or the Beer Judge Certification Program. Cicerone, Certified Beer Server, Certified Cicerone and BJCP are marks of their owners and are used only to name the exams.
Ratings & Reviews
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
Ready for iPhone Duo:
- Closed or open, every screen fits the display; open, Today and Styles use the larger page.
- Half open, the quiz and tasting note buttons and the style map controls keep clear of the fold.
- Folding or unfolding keeps your place in a lesson, a tool or a quiz.
- On style cards, the "Changed" mark no longer splits across two lines on narrow screens.
- In Styles on an upright iPad or an open iPhone Duo, picking a tool now closes the list over it.
