Creepypasta-esque Anomalies!

They gave me a Windows XP terminal and a manual of urban legends. Some callers are just pranksters. Others have something standing in their hallway.
### `FILE RECOVERED: OPERATOR_404_ORIENTATION.TXT`
### *"If a caller sends you SMILE_ORIGINAL.BMP, do not stare at the teeth. Check the left shadow, order a drive degauss, and close the window."*
In October 2006, I took a graveyard-shift job answering phones for the **NetWatch Anomaly Hotline**.
They put me in a windowless basement room with a beige Doors XP terminal, a 33.6k dial-up line, and a `.CHM` file full of things that aren't supposed to exist. My supervisor told me 35% of the calls would be teenagers pulling Photoshop pranks or raccoons tripping backyard trail cameras.
He didn't tell me about the other 65%.
He didn't tell me about the father whose 7-year-old daughter wouldn't stop staring at dead static on **UHF Channel 58**—even after he pulled the TV plug out of the wall. He didn't tell me about the girl getting AIM messages from **`127.0.0.1`**—her own house. And he didn't tell me what happens when you open a cursed attachment and something presses its face against the *inside* of your CRT monitor glass.

### YOUR SHIFT RULES (10:00 PM – 04:00 AM)
1. **Question the Caller:** Keep them on the line. Ask the right questions before their connection drops.
2. **Scrub the Uploads:** Load their `.BMP`, `.AVI`, and `.WAV` attachments into the **Forensic Analyzer**:
* **Shadow Contrast Boost (+300%):** Lift the darkness on 35mm Polaroids and MiniDV tapes to see what is actually standing in the trees.
* **Reverse EVP Decoder:** Run speaker hums and tape static backwards to hear what the broadcast is whispering.
* **EXIF & Hex Headers:** Check for `Adobe Photoshop CS2` tags to catch pranksters—or `1969-12-31` epoch errors to confirm a live cognitohazard.
3. **Consult `PhenomManual.chm` & Dispatch:** Separate the hoaxes from the real entities (*Smile.jpg, Candle Cove, BEN.Z64, The Tall Operator, The Rake, Black-Eyed Kids*) and issue the exact containment protocol.
4. **Read the Aftermath:** Check **Outlook Express** at the end of every night. Every caller lives or dies by the verdict you transmit.
---
* **4 Nights. 16 Cases. Multiple Endings.**
* **Headphones strongly recommended** *(60Hz CRT hum, microcassette EVPs, and live virus intrusions).*
***"Whatever you do—do not forward the attachments. And if your system clock freezes at `03:33`, close the virus window immediately."***
