Play local MP4/MOV files on your Mac with automatic subtitles and translation. Chinese, English and Japanese, six directions, all on your Mac. No account, no uploads. MuYi is a local video player for Mac. Open an MP4 or MOV file, and it generates subtitles and translates them so you can follow videos in Chinese, English and Japanese. RECOGNITION AND TRANSLATION RUN ON YOUR MAC Speech recognition and translation are done entirely on your Mac. Chinese (Mandarin) and English use Apple's system speech recognition. Japanese uses the built-in Kotoba-Whisper model, and Apple's system speech engine double-checks numbers and wording. Translation uses a built-in small model, either Index-Translate 2B or Hy-MT2 1.8B, running in a private process inside the app. It opens no port and makes no network connection. Your videos and subtitles are not uploaded. THREE LANGUAGES, SIX DIRECTIONS Recognizes Chinese (Mandarin), English and Japanese, and translates between them in all six directions. Subtitle modes: bilingual, original only (no translation), or translation only. SUBTITLES COME FIRST If subtitles are not ready yet, playback waits briefly so you do not miss anything. If you would rather not wait, click the button shown in the interface as "先继续播放" (English: "Continue playing for now"). Choose to generate subtitles as you watch, or prepare the whole video ahead of time. Drag the progress bar anywhere and the app processes the new position first. IMPORT AND EXPORT Import SRT files encoded in UTF-8 or UTF-16, and export the subtitles you generate. Generated subtitles are cached in the app's data folder on your Mac, so watching again does not start over. NO ACCOUNT, NO DATA COLLECTION No sign-up or login. No analytics. No ads. No data is collected. OPTIONAL: EXTERNAL TRANSLATION API If you choose, you can set up your own OpenAI-compatible translation API. When enabled, subtitle text is sent to the server you specify, and your API key is stored in the system Keychain. This is off by default. GOOD TO KNOW - Requires macOS 26 or later and a Mac with Apple silicon. - The download is about 2.8 GB because the models are included. - The first time you use Chinese, English or Japanese recognition, macOS may need to download system speech resources. - Interface language: Simplified Chinese (the app interface is currently available only in Simplified Chinese). - Proper nouns and some date and quantity expressions may be recognized or translated incorrectly. The app checks numbers and flags disagreements, but cannot guarantee that every one is correct. Please verify anything important. - Currently supports local MP4 and MOV files.
