Born saying "I'm gonna run an udon shop," he gives his life to noodles. Flick things left and right to live it with him, and get a brush-written life lesson at the end.
On the day he is born, a baby says just one thing: "I'm gonna run an udon shop."
Follow the whole life of the Oyakata, a man who devoted everything to udon noodles, in a one-finger game where you flick things left and right to sort them.
■ Just flick left or right
Things slide down the wooden counter in the middle of the screen.
Grab what the people on the left and right want and flick it to them. Flick the rest down to let it go.
The controls never change. What comes down the counter, and who is waiting for it, changes with every age.
■ From birth to old age
Tidying up baby toys, recess at school, sorting textbooks before a test...
Since childhood, everything has been udon training.
At 19 he becomes an apprentice, then runs a street stall, and at 40 he finally hangs the curtain of his own shop.
■ Serve udon just as ordered
Read each customer's order, add the right topping, and serve.
Kitsune, kakiage, tsukimi, chikuwa tempura, curry, wakame, shrimp tempura.
Impatient customers, double orders, regulars who only say "the usual", tipsy customers who change their minds, the last-train rush, a TV crew...
The older he gets, the busier the shop becomes.
■ Short scenes at every milestone
Each turning point in life gets a short scene with an illustration and a few lines.
The humor comes from the Oyakata's single-minded love of udon.
■ A life lesson at the end
When his life is over, the Oyakata leaves you one life lesson, brush-written in Japanese with an English translation.
There are 536 lessons in all. Start again from age 0 and finish another life to receive the next one.
■ A whole life in about 20 minutes
Each round takes about a minute, so you can play a little at a time.
Replay any age you have cleared, or play "Open anytime" for high scores with no goal.
