Pocket Paintbox brings the pleasure of a small artist’s paintbox to your iPhone and iPad. Open the paper, choose a brush, mix a colour and make a little painting wherever you are.
FOUR WAYS TO MAKE A MARK
Paint translucent watercolour washes, matte gouache, textured oils or expressive ink. Adjust wet spread, pigment edges, granulation, paint thickness, grooves, sheen and more. Your paint responds to the chosen paper grain.
TOOLS THAT FEEL LIKE YOURS
Choose Round, Flat, Filbert, Fan, Soft fan, Wash, Pencil and Pen, with an eraser and masking fluid close by. Touch and hold a brush to soften its tip, change its flow or shape the start and finish. Optional outlines help you see the selected tool size. Responsive tools use finger speed, while a pressure-sensitive Apple Pencil on iPad can vary the width with your hand.
MIX A LITTLE
Add colours to ceramic wells, adjust the strength, add water or medium, and rinse a pot when you want a fresh mix. Expand to four or six wells, or use one large mixing space.
ROOM TO EXPLORE
Paint on layers, change their order and opacity, hide or archive them, and undo or redo your changes. Protect an area with masking fluid and lift it to reveal the paper. Use the angle-snapping ruler for a straighter line, or paint with an organic shape, leaf, petal, star, heart or oval.
GET CLOSER
Turn sideways for Full canvas, with pinch zoom, two-finger movement, quick colours and live Size, Opacity and Flow controls. On iPhone Duo, Book keeps the paper above your palette, and the cover can show your painting.
START FROM A PHOTO
Bring in a photo beneath your paint and adjust its opacity. Find simplified shapes in the picture, smooth their outlines and follow a faint colour guide, with optional numbers.
KEEP WHAT YOU MAKE
Your editable paintings save on this device. Export a PNG with textured paper, plain paper or a transparent background, or prepare a mirrored transfer print. Paintings export at 1200 × 800 pixels; zooming the view does not increase that resolution.
Brush import is in beta. Supported brush tips and selected settings can be brought across, but results and supported effects differ from the original app.
