Car Factory Director is a real-time tycoon game about building a car company, from a shed that hand-builds one model into a global group with plants abroad and a rival or two bought out along the way. Bodies roll from station to station, trucks leave with finished cars, and every decision shows up on the line.
PICK YOUR HOME
Start in Michigan, Coventry or Pune, each its own difficulty. Michigan has a huge home market, cheap fuel and buyers who pay well for something big. Coventry has high wages and tight emissions rules, but Europe is next door. Pune has thin margins and cheap labour, and enormous volume for a company that can build cheap and reliable.
RUN THE LINE
Press, body, paint, assembly and test. The line runs only as fast as its slowest station, so every upgrade moves the bottleneck somewhere new. Add shifts, speed the line up and watch wear and defects climb. Book a maintenance window before something breaks. Open the factory floor to watch the whole plant work, and tap anything on it.
KEEP IT FED
Every car needs one of each of five part families: stampings, powertrain, electronics, interior, and chassis and wheels. Sign suppliers, hold enough stock and build your own press and engine plant. Run out and the line stops dead. Fill the yard with unsold cars and it stops too.
DESIGN THE NEXT CAR
Every model ages from launch day. Fund a design project in any of nine segments, from city cars and hatchbacks to pickups, vans, sports cars and luxury, in petrol, diesel, hybrid or electric. Run a clinic and a prototype fleet to narrow the studio's guess, then wait for the reviews to tell you what you really built. Facelift it, or replace it.
SELL EVERYWHERE
Set the price, run clearance deals on aged stock, sign dealers and win fleet contracts. Put your cars through each market's tests, pay the import duty or build a plant there, and ship from whichever plant is closest. Fourteen markets, from the United States and Germany to Japan, Brazil and the Nordics.
EVERY CALL HAS A COST
A supplier's bracket cracks. The union calls a strike ballot. A recall looms. Each event is a decision: pay now, or take the risk.
BUILD A GROUP
Climb from Workshop to Carmaker, Marque, International and Global Group, with 25 goals along the way. Hire six managers and two executives, train your people, deal with the union, cut your energy bill and research nineteen technologies. Go racing for the brand. Take on four established carmakers and the start-ups that spring up, and buy a rival when the price is right.
