Two thirds of new words fade in a day. HaruHaru tracks each card and brings it back right before you forget. 14,096 words, Hangul to TOPIK 6 and beyond, a day at a time.
Ever shelved a vocabulary book with the first thirty pages black with notes and the rest still spotless?
The problem isn't willpower. It's order. Nobody can tell by feel what to review and when. HaruHaru is a Korean vocabulary app that works it out for you: 14,096 words from Hangul to TOPIK Level 6 and beyond. All you have to do is today's cards.
“What should I study today?”
The app picks for you. After the 199 Hangul characters come the 766 words of TOPIK Level 1, then Levels 2 to 6 and Non-TOPIK words, in 287 Days of 50 flashcards.
“I saw it once. Why didn't it stick?”
That's how memory works.
In 1885, Hermann Ebbinghaus drew the forgetting curve: two thirds or more of something new is gone within a day. But recall it right before you forget, and the curve flattens. This is the spacing effect, confirmed by a 2006 meta-analysis of 317 experiments from 184 papers.
“So when does it ask me again?”
The moment your chance of remembering drops to 90%.
HaruHaru draws a forgetting curve for every card and asks again just as the memory starts to blur. Each right answer pushes the next review out, from 10 minutes to months, and each miss pulls it back in.
It all runs on FSRS, the spaced repetition algorithm built into Anki, refined on 700 million reviews from 10,000 real learners.
“How much do I know right now?”
Every word has a temperature: where it sits on its forgetting curve, turned into a color. Fresh words are a warm green, fading ones cool to orange, and words you keep missing sink to red. Word lists and the Hangul chart show the gaps at a glance.
“How far have I come?”
Track your streak and accuracy, look back on a heatmap, and see when you'll finish at this pace.
“What if I've never seen Hangul before?”
The Korean alphabet comes first, in six groups: basic vowels, basic consonants, the syllable chart that combines them, compound vowels, tense consonants, and final consonants.
Every character has a romanization guide (Revised Romanization of Korean), but the audio gives you the real sound. Consonants are read with ㅏ added, so ㄱ is read as 가. Hide the romanization on the chart and tap characters to test yourself.
“What's different about Korean words?”
Pronunciation that differs from the spelling is written out in Hangul, as in 학교 [학꾜].
Words that conjugate list their forms, like 들어요 · 들었어요 · 듣는, with irregular ones marked. Search 들었어요 or 학교에서 and you'll still find 듣다 and 학교. Sentence patterns show the particles a word takes, like ~을/를 듣다.
Loanwords show the word they came from on the back. Words spelled the same get a short phrase on the front to tell them apart, like 말을 하다 or 말 한 마리.
“Why no rankings?”
Because someone else's pace shouldn't become your yardstick.
New words per day, the review limit, target retention, when your day starts: you decide all of it. No notifications, no accounts. Your history stays on your device, and you can export it to move to a new one.
