I have Red/Green colorblindness, so I sometimes need help to check/confirm colors, e.g. when shopping for clothes online, colors are often unhelpful marketing nonsense like "Amalfi Coast" or "Evening Storm".This program helps - most of the time.

But it can also output similarly unhelpful color names like "Flirty Fran", "Vanquisted", "Sea of Marma", "Stained Glass", "Blueberry patch". (all the same shirt!) So you have to click around until *something* comes up like "Shadow Blue". So mostly blue with maybe some purple in it?So it works well enough, and better than several other programs I've tried.A few quibbles: in a perfect world it would have options for:• giving simplified color names• a choice of default color values. By default it gives a hexcode value, which is great if you're sampling colors for, say, Photoshop. If you want RGB values, however, you have to click the color wheel icon, then the RGB slider tab. They're there, but it's several extra steps.(The crayon tab does not, as one would hope, provide more simplified familiar color names)• a hot key to get instant readouts at your cursor location, rather than constantly having to go back to the dialog box, click the eyedropper, click the photo, then repeat as needed until you get a useful color name.

Does a great job in identifying colors. What I would like though, is a way to tune how precise the color naming is. For instance, my cat is white with butterscotch patches. The color namer identifies a wide range of different colors in both the white and brownish spots - dozens of different shades in the brownish areas in particular. What I would like is a way to reduce the palette to one or two shades for the brownish areas - some sort of pixel averaging would do the trick, I think.

I am colorblind, but I discern more colors than people who simply don't care or pay attention to that aspect of the world around them. Some might do no better than, "light blue," to descibe something but I can appreciate Carolina blue, sky blue, periwinkle, cornflower, cerulean, lavender, etc. I like being able to confidently say, "the girl in turquoise," without worrying that it might be gray. The color names are not the eight Crayola colors, so if fuchsia doesn't mean anything to you this might not help. Only four stars because their iPhone app lets you get closer to the crayon colors if you want, this has no settings. It works well in Mac OS 10.14 Mojave.

This simple app is INDISPENSABLE to a creative, color-challenged person like me. I love web creation, photography, design and graphic arts but there are color shades I have trouble detecting accurately. THIS app has been a life-saver! Thank you so much!!
