iJishin – iPhone seismometer, anytime anywhere, measure and browse.

iJishin is a free application that makes your iPhone(iPad, iPod touch) change into a seismometer and a data browser as well as a vibration analyser. You can upload seismic information such as maximum acceleration, “SHINDO”(seismic intensity) , occurrence time, and so on, to open your observation to the public.

iJishin also provides you an excellent tool to measure acceleration anytime anywhere on any occasion.

Feel vibration and measure with iJishin!

FEATURES:
iJishin draws full ability as a seismometer from iPhone(iPad, iPod touch). Also it provides tools for wave analysis.
iJishin uses acceleration sensors installed in iPhone(iPad, iPod touch) to measure earthquake vibrations. Signals of three sensors of the device are sampled with frequency of 100Hz and are given the time stamp every 0.01 sec strictly synchronized with UTC by using outer NTP server.
iJishin’s recording process starts/stops when the signal becomes larger/smaller than the triggering level. Allowance durations of the process can be set to save data before/after the signal grows/attenuates to the threshold triggering level.
iJishin provides you several tools to display and to analyze quake data saved in your iPhone(iPad, iPod touch): not only a wave browser but also a graphical display of power spectrum, of integration such as velocity and displacement, and of the 2D trajectory of the device.

What’s New

Version 5.1.3

This app has been updated by Apple to display the Apple Watch app icon.

You can share your data files in the cloud storage of your own.
Top screen 'Browser / Analyzer' -> 'Select Data' -> 'Share Recorded Data', select file/files -> 'Share'.

This is a nice app but what it really needs is the ability to utilize the iPhone accelerometer to detect earthquakes and automatically share that data to the cloud and/or the USGS.

Only when enough similar readings are detected from a certain region within a narrow timeframe would the data be considered legitimate and then be pushed back out to the map for all users to view.

The app could also be active only at certain times of the day/night that the user defines. As well as only be active when connected to pre-defined wifi networks. Such as Home or work.

Another option would be to only take accelerometer reading when it is plugged into power (such as when on your night stand or connected to a computer USB).

The app could also use the iPhone GPS to disable sensor reading when moving. As well as only record seismic data when the app detects the iPhone is laying flat on its back.

Another option would be to disable the seismic sensor data output when a face is detected with the front facing camera.

Requiring the app to be running in the foreground would also further prevent false readings.

This could easily, quickly, and cheaply create a huge network of seismographs around the world.
