Feature: User Interface (UI) Update 1 implemented. Changes include:
UI: Updated Inventory screens for greater visual clarity and consistency.
UI: Altered Key list screen to be more visible.
UI: Altered Portal information screen to make elements easier to see.
UI: Moved the Store out of Inventory.
UI: Added a world map marker to the Deploy screen to indicate where a selected Resonator is or will be deployed.

UI would be fine if we lived on a planet without a sun

The game is really hard to play during the day. But, game play is difficult and the in-game tutorial does not help. Though, I picked up on game mechanics after three days of play...basically selecting choices until they un-grayed. By default, you're forced into the Blue faction and your only indication of this is the color of your Avatar name. By now you'll have invested several hours into the game in support of the Blue faction. When the choice comes up to choose a faction, the majority of players stick with Blue because they see how few Green (The Resistance) portals there are. On iOS, this game drains your battery quickly. And, to top it off, the game requires it to be the only game being actively played. So, there's no toggling between Pokemon Go, Harry Potter Wizard Unite, and Ingress. If you switch to another app, say Discord to check with your local (game) community, Ingress game restarts. It's really frustrating for the game to reboot so frequently.

Prime disappointment

Prime is an attempt to make Ingress work more like Pokémon instead of the great game I started with. It is still playing catch up to the old scanner on features.

Niantic has scheduled a “scheduled maintenance” shut down of Scanner REDACTED, the hold over of the old version. I wonder how much play will suffer during that time. This is a game that appeals to people of all ages including adults who have no desire to play any version of Pokémon. Niantic seems to miss that point in trying to force us to use the flashy buggy distracting Prime instead of a stable version dedicated to function and strategy.

Sorry, Niantic, but I have no intention of continuing to play if I am forced to use this garbage

Not accessibility friendly

I have hand tremors and visual processing issues. The interface on this has no tolerance for even small slips as a fingertip touches the screen. It also does irretrievable things if my finger stutters.

There’s a lot of dark text on dark backgrounds and a general color palette that makes seeing what I’m doing hard. Nothing should ever be gray on black, and I don’t know who thought purple on black and dark blue on black were good in the documentation links.

Also, the battery drain is still horrifying in terms of rapidity. I used 50% of my battery in 20 minutes while on WiFi. I recharged portals and looked at (inadequate) help documentation. This gives me zero hope that my usual style of play— 2-4 hour walks with Ingress always on— are possible. Even if I carry every recharger I own, I won’t have enough power to make those worthwhile.

I was operating in power saver mode, too. If I’m miles from home, I need my phone for things like finding buses and being able to call for help.
