My office is connected to the internet via a couple of wireless bridges which occasionally perfom poorly, and sometimes I travel abroad to places where the internet connection is unreliable.I've been looking for a simple app that would just tell me whether there is a problem with my connection or not without any fuss. This is that app. It looks exactly like you'd expect it to (a green or red LED on the menu bar), and doesn't cheapen your desktop with low standard graphics or dialogs. If you want a sophisticated diagnostic tool, this isn't it. But if you just want a clean way to know at a glance whether your connection has gone down, this is perfect.

Make black/red icon + internet speed

I got this app a couple of months ago when I was having connection problems due to ISP issues with my DSL line. It has worked fine on a daily basis until it inexplicably failed today. No error message, no explanation - the dot remains red though I am obviously connected to the Internet. I refreshed from the menu — no change. I quit and relaunched the app — no change, then rebooted my Mac — no change. The problem is that if an app does only one thing, it has to do that thing correctly or else it is worthless.
