Description
Invisible File is very useful to keep your information away from prying eyes or kids who may accidentally modify or delete your files. It allows users to hide folders and their contents.
If the file be locked and can't be visibled/invisibled, make sure you haven't opened the file by other apps, such as iPhoto/Media Player.
Don't try to invisible a file in an external disk.
Using a password
You will be asked to add a password when you first open the app, this helps you to prevent others to open the application.
Notes about security
This program uses the standard functionality of the operating system to make folders and files invisible. Programmers and experienced users could gain access to a folder made invisible and there are some applications that let you open invisible files or files contained in a folder made invisible. Whether you need advanced levels for protecting your data, there are other ways as protecting information on removable media such as using Mac OS X FileVault. Glitchy… But, It Gets The Job Done (Before OS X Lion)
When it works properly, InvisibleFile does exactly what it should. It makes whatever file(s)/folder(s) you specify completely invisible and impossible to find. When it's not working properly, the files you make invisible become corrupted and cannot be opened (or even made visible). This has randomly happened to me twice. DO NOT USE THIS APP IF YOU ARE NOT USING TIME MACHINE TO BACK UP YOUR FILES!!! Everything I've lost due to this app's glitchiness has been saved soley because I was able to restore my files using Time Machine. Otherwise, they'd be gone forever and I'd be giving this app 1 star. In testing, I've come to the conclusion that InvisibleFile won't corrupt the files you're trying to hide as long as you keep those files/folders located on the desktop. DO NOT HIDE FOLDERS WITHIN FOLDERS. Keep ONE folder on your desktop containing NO OTHER FOLDERS and only the files you want to make invisible. Make that folder on your desktop invisible and you should be safe.
Now, this review was written pre-OS X Lion. BEWARE: CURRENTLY, THIS APP WILL NOT OPEN IF OS X LION IS INSTALLED ONTO YOUR MAC. Until InvisibleFile is updated to run on OS X Lion, it is completely useless.
I wanted to like this app
I thought the interface was nice…very easy to use, excactly what I was looking for, an easy way to hide folders and the files within them. At first it worked great and I hid 4 folders in my Documents folder. Locked and unlocked with ease. Next day I went back in to unlock a folder and it wouldn’t let me, it gave me an error message. 3 of my folders were stuck on “locked”. 1 of the 4 I was able to unlock normally. Fortunately I discovered a terminal command that allowed me to un-hide the files in those folders and recover them. Message to the developer is so far unanswered.
Love it
Very useful for hiding files from prying eyes on your screen. It is easy to make files/folders invisible and then it is easy to make them visible again. However, each time you want to make a file visible, you must type in your password. So, I would say that it is a useful, easy file/folder lock.
