Every content creation platform pays its conteibutors

After teying to use the app multiple times, it just doesn’t make any sense. I am a software developer myself and the UX on this thing is terrible. Last one was so intuitive, zoom into a place and you get to see what you want. When you download for the first time its literally blank, and then after fiddling around I had to tap download, thats when things showed up, And only for one state? Common. And $6 for subscription? That’s hilariously ridiculous. Good luck making money, I feel like its soon gonna shut down. Because the market you’re targeting is very tiny, for such market donation based community maintained system is best. Also will you pay the contributors? If not then you’re doing a disservice to your customers. Evey content creation platform pays its contributors and you putting a subscription service fee without paying the contributors is outrageous.

Hi, iOverlander2 works similiar to the Legacy Version, but yes, you have to download the places first. We know this new process is not perfect, but this change was required because of the massive amount of points iOverlander has around the world. Our old app faced many challenges because there were too many points to load, and because the points needed to be available offline. Of our users, less than 3% have contributed even a single check-in. In fact, over 30% of all our check-ins have come from .05% of contributors. (That’s not five percent, that’s half of a tenth of a percent! These contributors and more, have free upgrades for life.)

Ch ch ch changes- be patient

This app is amazing. The latest version is still a work in progress and requires continued support and patience by the users. The creators of this app have been urged by frequent users to charge a fee for years. They finally did it and now the freeloaders are complaining. If you don’t want to pay, don’t pay. There are many other travel apps out there. But this one is absolutely the best, most comprehensive package available. Try all the others that are “free”. And when you don’t find the info you need, come back and pay the 27¢ per day to join a community of compassionate, mindful, supportive travelers.

BTW- if you are a frequent contributor, be sure to contact them for your free subscription!

Thank you for your feedback! We really appreciate this and we promise we are working hard in making things better. We know the new App is not perfect yet, but we are making progress and support is highly welcome!

Can we please keep the old one 😭💔

We’ve been traveling full time in a bus for nearly 2 years and iOverlander was my go-to for places to stay. Loved it, recommended it to everyone. Then the update to this atrocity came. I hate this thing. All the ads make it look cheap and trashy, the subscriptions are out of this world pricey, and it’s a headache to use. Crossing state lines on a road trip and using the free version where you can only download one state at a time makes it impossible. It’s so much harder to navigate the app. I’ve been ignoring this and using my OG iOverlander. Can it be that the people who want bells & whistles can pay for this fancy new one and those of us that don’t want that can keep the old version? Not gonna lie, when the old one shuts down I’ll probably delete both of these. I’m relieved to see this one rated so poorly next to the original because it means I’m not just a hater, this app is worse.

Hi Kayla, we are sorry that you are so disappointed. We will try to keep the Legacy Version as long as possible, but it's already pretty buggy and will keep crashing because it was built more than 10 years on an outdated platform that isn't supported any more. Sometimes getting used to new things takes time, maybe you want to give the version 2 a second chance? It includes a lot of features we never had before, like favorites, 5 different map styles, amenity filters.
