See instantly whether your VPN is working. isVPN checks your visible public IP and shows the result as a simple colored shield in the menu bar.
isVPN is a simple menu bar tool that helps you see whether your VPN tunnel is actually working.
Instead of opening websites or manually checking your IP address, isVPN shows your connection state directly in the macOS menu bar.
The shield color tells you what is happening:
Orange: direct connection
Green: VPN egress IP detected
Red: possible leak or unclear status
The menu shows:
Flag + country code — where your IPv4 traffic exits, for example NL
IPv4 / IPv6 — your visible public addresses
Country · city — geo lookup
Tunnel status — with a plain-English explanation
isVPN checks your visible public IP address, country, and connection state. It does not read, modify, or manage your VPN configuration. It does not require access to your VPN provider account and does not install any VPN profile.
Use it as a lightweight indicator for everyday VPN awareness: start your VPN, watch the shield turn green, and quickly notice when something looks wrong.
How it works
isVPN does not read VPN profiles or vendor apps. It combines public IP detection with a local baseline check to detect whether your visible egress IP has changed.
IPv6 leak check
If your Mac has global IPv6 connectivity, isVPN also checks for possible IPv6 leaks. If IPv6 is not available, the app shows “not available” — this is normal on many networks.
Privacy
Geo lookups are sent over HTTPS to:
ip4geo.foxyfy.net
ip6geo.foxyfy.net
Baseline IPs are stored locally on your Mac only.
No analytics.
No usage tracking.
No third-party geo SDK.
isVPN is sandboxed and only uses outgoing network connections.
