Junban Rotation

Badminton, tennis & pickleball

Badminton & pickleball nights Junban takes the job the organiser normally does on a scrap of paper: dividing whoever turned up across the courts you have, pairing them differently each round, and making sure nobody sits out more often than anyone else. Tick who came, say how many courts and how long a match runs, and start. Junban does the rest. FAIR ROTATION Every round is drawn fresh and weighted so that resting is spread evenly. Sitting out more often than everybody else is the thing people mind — playing with the same partner twice in an evening is not — so an unfair rest outweighs any number of repeated pairings. Singles or doubles. One court or three. A CLOCK EVERYONE CAN HEAR All courts start together and one alarm ends the round. It plays at the media volume rather than the ringer, and it sounds even when the device is set to silent, so a phone propped by the net is actually heard in a busy hall. The screen stays awake while a match is running. Test it before you need it: Settings sounds the alarm on a three-second countdown, so you can set the volume while it is ringing. WARM-UP Start the evening with the warm-up rather than a round — four sets of two and a half minutes, or whatever your group does. A sound at the end of each set so everyone changes ends, and the full alarm when it is over. PEOPLE ARRIVE LATE AND LEAVE EARLY Add somebody mid-session and they join level with the field rather than being owed every rest going. Remove somebody and it takes effect next round, not mid-rally. Whatever they played still counts. RESULTS WORTH ARGUING ABOUT At the end of the evening: who won how many of how many, as a percentage, and who took the most. The season table goes further. A win is worth the strength of the side you beat — their win rates added up — so beating two strong players counts for more than beating two weak ones. A thin record is not taken at face value: a rate counts more the more games are behind it, and fully from twenty games on. Sort by score or by win rate, and reset whenever a season ends. GROUPS AND PLAY DATES Two different crowds on two different nights? Put them in groups and pick one with a tap. Enter the nights you play, with the time and the hall, and the next three are on the main screen. ON YOUR IPHONE AND YOUR IPAD Everything syncs through your own iCloud, so you do not enter the same people twice. NO ACCOUNT, NO SERVER, NOTHING COLLECTED There is nothing to sign up for. Junban has no account, sends nothing to us, and contains no analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind. What you put in stays on your devices and in your own iCloud, where we cannot read it. 順番 is the Japanese word for turn, or order. The app is in English and Japanese.
