LanScan is a simple and efficient IPv4 network scanner that discovers all active devices on any subnet: the local one, or any public subnet that you configure.
-> Auto-detection of configured interfaces: Airport, Ethernet, Virtual interfaces ...
-> Scan the IP range you like, from 1 IP to the whole IPv4 address space!
-> Scan your local network with ARP packets
-> Scan public IP network ranges with Ping / SMB / mDNS packets
-> Display the IP address, MAC address, hostname (4 max) and vendor associated
-> Discover the SMB domain if any configured
-> Hostname resolution: DNS, mDNS (Apple devices) and SMB (Windows devices)
-> Custom hostname edition
-> Custom comment for each device
-> Open custom URL in browser
-> Export results in CSV files
-> Hide/show each column
-> Align each column as you want
-> No limitation on the number of devices found !
Restrictions in free version compared to Pro in-app purchase:
-> Only 4 hostnames are fully displayed -> You'll see the first 3 chars of the others
-> Only few TCP ports are displayed in free version
* New feature : Set your own color for custom names & comments in menu "LanScan → Preferences"
* New "What's New" menu at bottom of new version features
* New keyboard shortcut for scan configuration : Cmd+.
* New keyboard shortcut for keyboard shortcuts list : Cmd+0
* Updated MAC addresses vendors
Ratings and Reviews
works great, fast and reliable
After suffering through the greedy "IP scan basic/home/pro" bait and switch of a competitor, I am pleased to say that LanScan is a fine reliable product. It's naming "discovery" is not as good as others (you end up having to add nearly every Hostname manually) but once that is done, it's fast and reliable.
(What gives me pause: the "pro" version has been discontinued and now they proudly proclaim that future updates will follow the in-app-purchase model. It appears Debookee-team has gone to the dark-side? Sadly. TIme will tell)
Developer Response ,
Hey xTexLutz ! Thanks for your kind words. Not sure what you mean by dark side of the in-app purchase, both LanScan+In-App and LanScan Pro had the same features since we started to code both app when in-app didn't exist. Simply a better user experience for users ! More info here : https://github.com/iwaxx/blog/issues/8 (or google "How we migrated our LanScan Pro users to LanScan on App Store")
One of my favorite tools
Lanscan has always been apart of the toolset I use to help manage networks and I never really thought about leaving a review until I ran into another networking tool and realized how great it was over the 5 years of me using it.
I never had a problem paying out in supporting the developers over these years (Even when they moved licenses around a few years back but they still helped the loyal customers!) and I never thought to leave a heart warming review until now, so I want to say THANK YOU. I love this tool and the work that went into it as simple it may seem. It's really worth the money (A few cups of coffee). Especially since they just updated it for the new M1 Macs (When I eventually get my new mac I can continue to use it!) and most importantly affordable with a one time license, what more can you ask for? 😌
Great utility if you have more than a few machines or lans to support
I picked up a copy a few years ago and used LanScan in the "free" mode. It's been fantastic to take a quick inventory of the machines on my lans.
Eventually, I had a need for the additional information so I ponied up the six dollars for the pro version (buy in-app, not the separate version).
This has made it so simple to find IP addresses for devices I cannot quickly get to or which don't have a way to view it. The built-in port scan is just gravey. Definitely worth the money.
Recently, I upgraded to Catalina and tried to do a scan on a machine with multiple interfaces. Though I had a problem, so I emailed the developer (accessed through the app's Help menu). On a Sunday, I got a response in 6 minutes. I was amazed. OK, so I probably won't always get the level of support every time, but I was happy.
Turns out it was a cockpit error, but the email clearly addressed my problem and contained everything I needed to use LanScan correctly.
