Leaf is a markdown notes app for Mac and iPhone.
You write plain markdown and it styles itself as you type. A line that starts with # becomes a heading. "- [ ]" becomes a checkbox you can tap. Tables are drawn as grids, code blocks get syntax colors, images show up inline. The syntax markers stay hidden until your cursor lands on that line, so a note reads like a document and edits like a text file. Nothing is converted behind your back: what is stored is still markdown, ready to copy elsewhere or export as a .md file.
Sync
Notes, folders, tags and attachments sync between your Mac and iPhone through your own iCloud account. There is no Leaf account to create and no server of mine in between. No analytics, no tracking.
Mac and iPhone
One purchase covers both. The Mac app has a three-pane layout and a minimap for moving around long notes. The iPhone app keeps a single list and puts a markdown toolbar above the keyboard. Search, folders, tags and attachments work the same on either one.
Widgets
Put your notes on the Home Screen or the Mac desktop. Recent Notes lists the notes you edited last, in small, medium and large sizes (extra large on Mac). Latest Note shows the one you were just writing, and also fits the iPhone Lock Screen. Tap a note to open it, or tap the pencil to start a new one.
Locked notes
Any note can be locked with a password. Its text is encrypted on the device and the password is never stored, so nobody can recover it for you. Forget it and that note stays closed.
