Learn music theory, practice note recognition, and collect stickers!
Improve your music skills! No instrument is required!

Learn notes and sight-reading with flashcards! Answer using buttons with note names, a virtual piano, or sound. The Nutka app works with your voice or real instruments like piano, guitar, violin, etc.

Great educational app for beginners learning the instrument or kids studying music:
- easy theory lessons
- colors help to associate sounds with notes names
- every correct answer is rewarded with a smiling kitten
- session summary lets you control the progress
- hints mode and swiping to see the correct answers are beneficial for discouraged people
- listening to the piano sound during sight-reading practice builds perfect ear skills.

Nutka, the sight-reading tutor, will help you learn music notes in just a few days! Start with the Lessons and learn the basics of music theory. Then, go to the Practice and learn by repetition at a different difficulty level. Start with the line and space notes, and when you are ready, expand your learning.

Set your daily goal and use the app's timer to stay on track.
Collect Stickers for every session with at least a few good answers.
If you don't recognize the note, don't worry. Just swipe the screen to see the music flashcard with the correct note name.

Good app but needs some work

The app is very helpful as I am learning to read the bass clef line. The only problem I see is that when choosing level 3 to read above the line the notes are in the writing so you can’t really see the note. You can’t tell if the note has a line through it or how many spaces above the line it is. If I could upload a picture I would show you what I mean. Otherwise it is a good app for learning.

EDIT: Please update the app, it should work fine now!
Hi! Thank you very much for your review, and I'm sorry for the issue! I can now see that the landscape view cuts off the top note on iPhones. We will work as soon as possible to fix this. However, if that is not the case, please email us the bug's screenshot at boramaapps@gmail.com. Thank you!

Terrible app

You have to slide the notes around before you can select which note you’d like. Too hard for my little one to do. Just put all the letters where you can choose the correct answer without having to slide notes around!

In response to developer’s response to my review:

I tried downloading the app again to check out their suggestions. When I tried to flip to landscape mode, it said the free app doesn’t support landscape mode, and you have to get the paid version. I changed the setting to include all the keys my little guy knows, but needs to practice (f space at bottom of base clef to g space above treble clef) and tried to play the game myself, but you still have to slide the letters around to get the right color “a” or “b” or whatever based on what octave it is in. If there’s a way to fix this on the app and actually make the app useful, it’s too hard to find.

Update: The way to access all the grand staff notes is landscape view. You can buy the PRO, monthly or yearly subscriptions, or watch a short video (you'll get a landscape view for one hour).
Hi! Sorry to hear that! For beginners & little ones, we recommend starting with Level 1 and Input Method letters. All the buttons will fit in a landscape view, but you'll need an Internet connection to watch the short ad first. When using a keyboard, go to the settings and adjust the width of the keys to fit the screen. In the PRO version, you don't need an Internet connection; there are no ads.

Has potential

I didn’t know if I got the answer right or wrong when I started. Maybe get rid of the cat and put a check or an x instead..

Maybe you can use the cat to put motivational messages that appear on the screen, like if your having trouble make the cat appear and put a speech bubble saying “You can do it!” And if your doing a good job the cat can say “You’re doing great! Keep up the good work!”

Also, maybe you should make the interface cleaner so there is not buttons everywhere.

You should totally add a setting to turn the timer and score feature on and off!

Maybe also add games where you compete against the clock to get the most points and rank up on the leaderboards!

Overall, this is a great app but it has so much more potential.
