Description

In an effort to keep the Cajun language alive we've recorded family members, friends, and ourselves saying random words in cajun french. We took these recordings and made them easily accessible through this app. Take a look around, learn some new phrases, and as always "Laissez le bon temps rouler"!
All questions can be directed to LearnCajun@gmail.com

Me😤😵😭 ,

I like the app features!

So I grew up always hearing someone say these words and phrases and I don’t know how to spell them so if I was to try to type it into a sentence, I would be absolutely confused. So when I’m looking at the way it’s properly spelled I’m like what the heck is that; but then when I listen to the pronunciation, I’m like that’s exactly what my grandmother was saying!! It’s mostly nice for me because that’s what she told me it meant and all my grandparents are dead now so it’s really cool to see how it’s supposed to be spelled. Then see the words my grandmother used to say to be able to learn how to spell these things. Now I can become someone who’s not just someone who can say the words I can also write them down or put them in a sentence or make up statement and know exactly what it says, and I know that the way we pronounce it has our own accent, which is why it was always hard for me to put it together with proper French because we use the older dialect than the proper French! It makes it really really hard to learn from the words I remember with proper French spelling and phrasing and word usage. I love this app!

Mais this is the best thing I’ve ever had since Evangeline Maid with ma Mimi’s Catfish Courtbouillon

Look, let me tell you a lil somethin’ baw, this thing right here got me wantin’ to learn me somethin’ while I am on days off. Now instead of hittin’ Wawee’s by dat river, I sit on my couch wit a natty light in my consons learnin’ what my Parian used to yell at me when he was gettin’ the belt. Cook you some rice, Learn you some Cajun, and comme ca!

Brings back memories

This brings back so many memories… my grandparents use to speak Cajun French when they didn’t want us grand bebes to understand what they were saying… my granny would teach me a few words but I used to love hearing my grandparents speak in French!!!!
