The journal provides a daily (Monday - Friday) Lectio Divina invitation, a Saturday Examen Prayer practice, and a Sunday Journaling option.

Unexpected Cost

This looks like an excellent app for guiding the practice of lectio divina. I wish, however, that you had been up front about there being a $10/month fee. I’m currently in seminary, living on a pastor’s salary, and have a family of four. I understand your need to cover your costs, but I cannot take on any new costs at this time. $10 isn't asking much, but it is more than I can currently shoulder.

Update: thank you for your response and the added information. $1.99/month is much easier on our tight budget.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for offering this review. Unfortunately what you saw was the cost that was being used in the development stage of the app. The actual subscription fee is $1.99 a month, this should be reflected when you sign up for a subscription, which is used for the upkeep and future versions. Sorry for the confusion.

Cannot edit bible passage?

I want to love this app. But I am getting ready to do an Ingnatian Retreat where they give us specific bible passage to reflect on using Lectio Divina. I’ve tried to edit the provided passage to accommodate the passages I need to reflect on but that seems to be the only thing that cannot be changed in the journal entry. I am able to look up another passage to read, but it will not document that new passage in the app, it goes right back to the default passage for that day. I completely value the passages that are auto populated for those who need help knowing what to reflect on to keep up with a daily routine, however, I will have to resort to using a simple journaling app so I can insert and document my own passages until this app allows the opportunity to edit the provided passage. I hope you are able to make this happen, because there is great value in this app... except for having to be tied to specific passages each day 😉

Bad UX Choices

It is really inconvenient to not be able to sign-up through the app itself (you have to go to the main website), but it is the manually entering in my credit card information, which gives me pause. There’s no way to ensure that my information is protected (at least from the perception of the interface). I understand your cutting down on costs by not using a middle man, but I honestly think that choice will kill the app before it even starts, which is sad because the idea is great!

I am more than happy to pay the monthly subscription, but I would rather do it through something like Apple Pay for 1) ease and 2) ensured security of my credit information. It is also easier for me as a user to manage in terms of my subscriptions.

Developer Response ,

Hello! Thanks for checking out the application and providing your feedback. We are striving to do our best to provide the best experience.

As you pointed out, we made the decision to keep costs low so that the application and its contents are easily accessible to as many people as possible. We have spent a great amount of resources to make this application a reality. We made the decision to keep costs low but still provide a high quality experience through the application.

The nominal subscription is to make sure that the application and its content is consistently updated with content to guide you through your spiritual journey. We go through and create new entries every 6 months so that is stays consistent with the physical journals we create.

A single subscription also gives you access to your account on the iOS application as well as the web application found at lectiodivinajournal.com as well as the Android application. This is so that you can do your lectio divinas wherever it is convenient for you and is synced across all your applications with an Internet connection.

We can assure you that security is one of the highest priorities of ours and are using Stripe to process all transactions. Stripe is an online payment processor used by many of the largest tech companies around the world to run transactions. Your information is encrypted using AES-256 on Stripe's servers and never saved on our server.

We hope this gives you peace of mind and thank you for using the Lectio Divina Journal application. Blessings.
