Description

Powerful privacy-respecting office suite, based on OpenOffice, compatible with Microsoft® Office. It has been in development since 2010, and is used by tens of millions of people around the world. It's backed by The Document Foundation, a non-profit organisation.

Included: Writer (word processing), Calc (spreadsheets), Impress (presentations), Draw (vector graphics and flowcharts), Base (databases), and Math (formula editing).

LibreOffice is compatible with a wide range of document formats such as Microsoft® Word (.doc, .docx), Excel (.xls, .xlsx), PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx) and Publisher. But LibreOffice goes much further with its native support for a modern and open standard, the Open Document Format (ODF). With LibreOffice, you have maximum control over your data and content – and you can export your work in many different formats including PDF.

LibreOffice is made by a worldwide community, who can help you:

about a year to get used to

once i got my templates figured out, my stress levels really decreased.

they could do some things more succintly, but all open source software has these limitations of time, money and insight.

text editing using revision tracking with native powerpoint format is great!

Works on my MacBook Pro, a mess on my iMac

Installed this first on my main machine, a 2017 iMac with Monterrey OS and 64Gb of RAM. There, the app is a complete mess. It doesn't respond to MagicMouse scrolling; double-clicking a word does not select it; it takes three attempts every time to drag across a phrase or sentence to select it; and what limited scrolling I can do by clicking in the scrollbar often results in visually split pages right down the middle, where the left half of the screen displays (for inatnce) page 2 and the right half hangs on page 1. A miserable experience, so I was going to leave a one-star review. Then II found that LibreOffice works fine on my MacBooks Pros from 2018 and 2020. Not sure what's going ohere n but especially for a paid app I expect excellent compatibility, not just with SOME Macs.

Developer Response ,

If you still experience issues on the older device with the latest macOS and LibreOffice versions (quite a bit has changed between 7.5 and 24.2), could you please open a bug report on https://bugs.documentfoundation.org so developers can look into it? Much appreciated!

Good application for basic use but has obvious limits

Got tired of having to pay microsoft for upgrades of a subsription so decided to give this a shot. Overall for basic home use it works well. I'm not a power user just basic budget spreadsheets and word processing. However, one big ommission is it doesn't seem to have a way to use a Grammar Check.

There's an extension but as far as I can tell it requires Java which is disabled in the app store version. However, even the regular version from the Document Foundation web site with the proper JDK installed I couldn't get the grammar check to run. This is with it claiming that it is included by default.
